A swarm of ladybirds flew by a lush garden. Flower choirs sang about the lovely day and surrounded a statue. A little ladybird, not bigger than half the size of more ladybirds in the swarm turned to look at the shining golden statue. It was modelled into the shape of a girl, shoulder length hair and a dress with a pinafore top. "Mama, who is that?" the little ladybird asked.
"The only girl who dared to stand up to the Queen of Hearts," the older ladybird replied. "Now hush and keep up with the rest of the swarm."
A white rabbit in a red coat ran past the swarm while frantically looking at its golden pocketwatch on a constant basis. "Oh, we're late, we're late!" he kept exclaiming as he ran. Past the stream, he did not even have time to respond to Bill McGill nor the Mock Turtle as it zipped through their territories. It saw nothing of the Cheshire Cat as he zigzagged through the forest of the Catepillar and ended up on the shore before the Sea of Tears. It made his way across it and to the Room of Doors. It looked at his watch again. "Oh dear oh dear, we shall be very late indeed."
Behind him, dark clouds swirled and covered the vast land. The pale blue of the sky tinged red as forests lost their greenery to death and gnarled branches hung limply from every tree. Grass withered and turned into brown dust in the ground. The flowers stopped singing and groaned guttural notes instead. In the palace of the Red Queen, thick brown vines grew in abundance along the castle walls as trump soldiers abandoned their duties to guard the palace and kill every intruder in sight instead. Not a single bird or animal was left alive in the castle grounds. Screams can be heard coming from the castle prison as the jailers went on a mas genocide with the death row prisoners. Thick red liquid seeped through the castle walls and grounds and into the roots of the vines, colouring the grotesque appendages rusty red.
The throne room was a dark affair. The sky was permanently dark red, and the castle lights were stained vermillion red from the sap leaked from the vines, dying the room in an ethereal black-red light. The white parts of the white and black checkered floor had blotches of red sap from the vines that covered the palace. A single person was sitting on the highest part of the room, the chair gold with encrusted jewels, but all dusted with the same liquid that covered the lights and floor.
"Where is she?" the Queen bellowed.
A brave trump soldier, bearing the insignia of Spades stepped forward. "We have raided all of Wonderland, Your Majesty. But she is nowhere to be found."
The information did not sit well with the Queen. "Find her at all costs. I want her to be begging for her life at my feet. Bring me Alice."
A young woman with brown hair and a black dress sat idly on a chair in a corner of a tiny room. The door of the room slammed open, but the woman remained unblinking to the sudden intrusion. It was routine.
"Target?" she asked.
"The Queen of Hearts," her superior replied. "In a location only you can go to."
The young woman turned around and smiled, a feral grin. "Let me guess. I'm going back to where I went years before." She turned her head back toward the window.A familiar sinking feeling descended upon the young woman as she fell down the ever familiar rabbit hole. It was filled with pictures, furniture and other random items. "Hmp. Junk," she commented to herself. She did see that some pictures were now painted with dark images. Scores of trump soldiers invading a Forest. She saw the floor coming up. "The length of the rabbit hole has shrunk," she said.
Landing lightly on the red and black checkered floor, she glanced around the Room of Doors. Nothing new here. A flash of white caught her eye. Her hostage has presented itself up to her without her having to hunt it down at all.
"Hello Alice," the rabbit said. "So good of you to arrive early. We're on a tight schedule here, and if you don't hurry we're going to be late."
"Hello Rabbit," the young woman greeted back in a flat tone. "I see you have been well."
The rabbit shook its head. "Oh no. Things have taken for the worse. You might be the only one to save us all, Alice," the rabbit replied.
That sentence caught her attention. "I am merely here for an assignment," she said. "I have no obligation in your grand mission to save anybody, or you for that matter."
She received a 'tut' from the rabbit. "I do beg your pardon Alice, but not everything was the way it was when you first arrived here years ago. Friends now turn foes because the world itself have tipped. Wonderland is in danger."
The young woman frowned. "I don't see what has it got to do with me. And don't call me that."
"What do you want to be called then?" the rabbit asked, clearly surprised.
The young woman smirked back. "They call me... Black Alice."
