With one final upward slash, the Akuma was split into half, utterly defeated. Allen watched as the chained soul was freed from its bindings. "Tell him it's not his fault," the soul said as it drifted up. "And also to keep up all his work he has done so far."
A single tear ran down Allen's cheek as the gears on his face kept spinning. He gave a silent consent as the soul finally vanished and his left eye reverted to normal. All was silent until a resounding clang on metal on cement rang out in the quiet town square.
At the inn in the next town, he told Kanda what the soul had said. Kanda said nothing, just a nod and retreated back to his bed. Lavi was sitting on his bed by the window, watching the sun set. His left arm had been broken from the fight earlier and was now wrapped in a cast. He glanced back at Allen who shrugged.
"Don't think about it too much," Lavi told him as he ruffled Allen's hair slightly.
"But Lavi... His-- " he tried to say but was silenced when Lavi gestured for him to keep quiet. Allen said nothing but Lavi beckoned him out of the room.
Once they were safely out of the depressing atmosphere of the room the 3 Exorcists shared, Lavi finally spoke. "Don't worry to much about Yuu. He'll get over it with enough time."
Allen looked down miserably. "I couldn't even do what the Akuma's soul wanted. His own family was the Akuma."
Lavi leaned out of the window, resting his broken arm on the sill. "Allen, sometimes when Akuma tell you a job, it may not necessarily means you have to do it. It may mean you pass the message to someone who is able to do it. Don't take it harshly ok?" He gave a smile to the youger Exorcist who felt a lot less miserable.
Allen left soon after that to get something to eat. When he came back, he saw Lavi sitting on Kanda's bed while the latter was sleeping. He decided to not ask.
After they returned to the Order, Allen was told to give the report. Lavi went off to find Bookman. He didn't know where Kanda went. After he given his report, he retreated back to his room. After a while, a loud 'YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU' echoed through the Order. Allen found himself fleeing through halls. That voice was Lavi's. And by that name, no doubt who it was. By the time he reached Kanda's room, the place was cordoned off by Komui. What little information he managed to see was Lavi talking to Komui behind the partially closed door and a dark pool of blood on the floor.
Much later, he saw Lavi coming out from the medical wing. "Yuu tried to accelerate the lotus's wilting. I think I talked him out of it," he told Allen in a subdued tone. "See you around."
In two days Allen was given another mission to recover possible Innocence. When he came back, he saw Kanda still in a daze. Lavi's arm would take weeks to heal and was temporarily stuck in the Order until he's fit to move around again.
"We're putting Kanda under a watchful eye until he can function properly," Komui told him when he went to see the Supervisor.
Lavi, on the other hand did not mind much. "It's ok mostly," he told Allen. "He still tries to kill himself."
Soon after, Lavi's arm was finally healed. He heard no more reports of Kanda doing anything suicidal. Life went on as normal in the Order.
The war was over. The Vatican had triumphed. The survivors cried in relief and in memory of the dead. Allen deactivated his Innocence as Lenalee came over and broke down. He saw the Generals trudging towards each other, their weapons lowered and dropped, forgotten by their owners. Klaud's money rode atop her shoulder. He saw Marie, Krory, Miranda and the other Exorcists gathering back. He saw Lavi and Bookman talking to Komui. He saw Kanda walking back to the camp but collapsed halfway. He never asked why.
The next day, he learned that Bookman and Lavi had left. They left their Innocence with Hevlaska shortly after they returned to the Headquarters.
"They were spectators. They were never really our allies," Komui had told him. Allen did not see Kanda that day. At night,he heard a piercing scream. This time he did not run through the halls like his life depended on it. He went there at his own pace. When he reached the source, he saw Komui holding up a large hourglass with brown withered things in the bottom bell. There was nothing in the top half of the hourglass.
That night, the blood never stopped. It drained the life of its owner. Allen heard about it one too many times. He already knew why. Kanda was not as strong as he wanted other people to see him as. Internally, he had shattered when he heard the news. Allen kept quiet even after it died down. That was because it was a secret Kanda would never want to let anybody know. He didn't think that Lavi would want to say it out loud either.
Because he did not know how to explain love
Eeew... I hate sappy endings =A=
