Life is pretty good right now. I should really be reading my math textbook, but I can't bring myself to do it so I'll rationalize by wasting time on here instead! Because time wasted on livejournal is not wasted time, as far as I'm concerned. Oh, livejournal. What would I do without you?
Anyway, SWEET day today. Nothing like the delicious freedom of end of exams! Everyone was terribly giddy in English; Mr. Britton asked us what we did over the weekend and that just opened a floodgate of stories and wittiness and lots of laughing all around, which lasted a good twenty minutes or so. I love my IB counterparts! And then we did an easy activity about active versus passive voice, which wasted the majority of the period. All in all, an entirely unproductive (and thus entirely wonderful) English class.
Chemistry gets even better. We spent the first few minutes of the period making s'mores on the Bunsen burners; Oliver was there too because he has a study hall that period anyway. So we made s'mores until we were stuffed (it doesn't take that long; who knew s'mores were so filling?) and then...dispersed. Stephanie had to go do something--I'm not sure what--so Oliver, Sandro and I paid a visit to the bio kids, who were dissecting SHEEP BRAINS! Hilarity ensued. There was much taking of pictures and poking of brains and playing of ChemQuest by the chemistry kids. Because yes, even on our first official day off, we still play chemistry games. We're NERDS, baby!
Roberts was absent in Euro so we got to watch a movie; Greta, Esther and I opted out of that to go to the library and work on our salon instead; I still have a little more than half of my biography to read. I'm not expecting to get through it before the salon, but I would like to finish it just for kicks. Soooo interesting. It's really cool to read it knowing kind of what's coming, historically. As the events in the Marquis' life draw closer and closer to 1789, I'm mentally like "THE FRENCH REVOLUTION IS COMING" and there are all these subtle little indications in the text. Ahhh, European history. I love thee.
AP US was tolerable. We turned in our resumes (the "town hall" is tomorrow) which means that I am THIS CLOSE to being done with that fucking class once and for all. Except for the fact that I still need to take that test on chapters 33 and 34, but WHATEV. Minor details. I read my biography for the first half an hour or so of class, and then I just slept through the rest of it. Sweet, sweet sleep. So all in all, not much different from the rest of the year. :P
I believe I have to work tonight, from 5-10. I wish I'd stop being so nervous every time, but I can't help myself. I think the problem is that I desperately want to please everyone, and you just...can't do that in the restaurant industry. You can't be that much of a perfectionist, or you will drive yourself crazy, because there's just no way to get everything done--and done as well as I'd like it to be--and still just be one person. So I'm still learning, but I think I'm slowly getting better at not totally freaking out. What really drives me up the wall is when something goes wrong--like the kitchen cooks the wrong order or something--that's completely out of my control, but since I'm the waitress, I'm the one who gets blamed for it by the customer. I dread those moments. Bah. Enough of this talk! At least now that I have my car back, I won't have to have my mom drive me. That always makes me more nervous because it reminds me of summer field hockey practices, which I always dreaded and loathed.
I rented Quills, which is another movie about the Marquis de Sade. I believe it came out before Sade, and it's in English, which makes me a little sad (heh. A little Sade, if you will) but it's supposed to be good. Yaaaaay. I don't know when I shall watch it, but I rented it yesterday so if all else fails I can just watch it Saturday night. Since Friday is proooooooooom! Yay prom. I hope it's decent, I really do; if nothing else, I can sit on a chair the whole evening and look damned good. XD We shall see.
All right. I don't know if I can waste very much more time on this. My recital yesterday went well, by the way, with only a few minor errors that were more funny than anything else. It was pretty cool to watch the more advanced dancers, particularly one who did a "drum solo". Holy shit, that was amazing. There's basically no music beyond the percussion, so the dancer has to really strongly accentuate her movements to be incredibly precise and sharp. The girl who did it was just incredible; I was blown away by it. The rest tended to be impressive, but not amazing. I hope I can continue classes over the summer, because belly dancing = looove.
Phew. Math calls!
