Interesting that Ford Motor Company happens to be in the news today. Apparently, they recalled 4 models of vehicles for a power steering malfunction. It's an interesting thing, since the malfunction happens when break fluid leaks onto the power steering cables and over time causes corrosion which can possibly lead to fires. Wow! I think that would be not so common. Nice to know that they will just fix such a problem in their vehicles. Well, one of those is the F-150 pickup, which is also their best selling in America (or so says that article).
Well, here near Saint Petersburg, Ford also has a factory. I guess they make the Ford Focus (now the Focus II). My girlfriend just got a job there doing something in their customs and prime costs department. To me, it's like prime cost and importing. I've learned a lot about accounting and economics in the last few years, and none of it in schools--now I spend a lot of time with economists, accountants, and business professionals. Anyway, I'm interested in what the prime cost of one of these cars is. It's like knowing that a pair of Nike shoes is about 4$ in parts and then $0.50 in labor (that's giving them credit, because they very often pay less per pair of shoes). I can't estimate presently on what the prime cost of a car would be. I'm sure that it's at least 1/6 of the retail, giving the middle men a lot of credit. I doubt I can give accurate figures when I get them (and if), but maybe I will try to give some 'estimate' of such.
Anyway, I know that their shares were up 7 percent yesterday on the NYSE even after the news. That's not bad. Although, I believe that a company run solely by share price is a company not to work for. Besides, a company that takes care of its customers as well as its employees will find that they gain more customers and better employees, thus increasing profit and market share as well. I have these discussions with software company directors here, and so I think about them often. So, while this was my analysis overall, it was also one of the gen manager's beliefs. I guess that's a good analysis to agree on.
OK, that's enough for now. My friend came back from India and so we are all having a part on Saturday.
Ha ha. Well, a part with my friends Sam and Justin is usually a very serious party. (Sam and Justin are from Kenya and Tanzania. They are like my brothers and took care of me when I arrived. Also, they were my translators (along with Shawn, Sam's brother) with the Deputy Governor). I'm usually not prepared for so much vodka, which is often about 1 liter per person. I guess I should point out that 1 liter per person is not much for most Russians. Annu, who is just came back from India, is always fun and it's will be very nice to see her. Maybe I will catch up on some of my old classmates too, since she goes to that medical university. Also, since I don't get to see them so much anymore, it will be very nice.
But today, Friday, I have a lot of work. Class in the morning and class at night. I like my job, lucky me.
