no guarantees

Well, I'm sitting on the computer at home and both parents are home. How's that possible? As of the last day of June, my parents own a new house. It's pretty rad - bigger house with a smaller backyard, which my parents wanted because the upkeep of the ranch plus trying to upkeep the house and yard in Austin was getting to be too much. This place has carpet only in the bedrooms, the rest is tile. There's other cool things about it, of course (covered, screened back porch, deck, pretty door, etc), but the floors alone make a huge difference. We have to be out of the old house this Friday, which actually seems possible. After 18.5 years in the same house, there was a LOT of crap. The sucky thing is, I'm not gonna have a lot of time to get my room set up before I have to go back to school.

Speaking of school, I still have no idea where I'm going. I don't see what the point of sending in my stuff to A&M early is if I still have to wait til after the deadline to find out if I'm going there. Classes at Tarleton start on the 24th and at A&M on the 31st, so either way I'm gonna be cutting it really close with house hunting, potentially job hunting, and moving. Lovely.

I'm dating a guy, Daniel, right now. I knew him back in high school - we had a crush on each other then, but he was dating someone else (a skeeza!). I saw his roommate, Isaac, at Hill's a few weeks ago (he used to live behind me, was a total "banger" and now is a total "kicker." The transition baffled me for a good while), and I eventually found out they're roommates. Daniel and I hung out that Friday and were officially together that Monday, so it's been about a month (I guess this upcoming Monday will make it a month). The only issue is we're both stubborn and he can be quite argumentative, which, due to my stubbornness, I argue right back. We've had one REALLY major fight, a couple less major ones, and have a tiff about every other day. It's still okay, so far, but I'm not entirely sure how it's gonna work out when I'm two or three hours away. Some of it is trust issues (past girls treated him poorly), some of it is jealousy/controlling issues, a lot of it is misunderstanding and overreacting. Unfortunately this has been a sucky summer to be with me, especially this month with the move, working, etc. But when we're not fighting, it's great. I took him down to the ranch with me tonight to water the trees and drop off/pick up stuff. Minus a tiny tiff, we had a really good time. :) He's a woodworker at his step dad's place, and is currently fixing and redoing my family's antiuqe buffet. I think it'll be done next week. And despite the fact that he reminds a few of us of my asshole cousin, Justin, the family all likes him. The only family/him relationship that isn't okay is him and Prom Date, which is a work in progress or needs to be. And, as a finishing note, Prom Date and Isaac have been official since a few days after Daniel and me.

The other major thing of the summer is my job. Primarily, I'm working at the Mary Lee Foundation, an intermediate care facility for mentally retarded adults, thanks to Prom Date and Momma T. Long story, short: I assist fairly high functioning MR adults in daily activities so they can lead as normal life as possible. It definitely has it's rewarding moments: having the clients want you to come back, the fuzzy good feeling, the pay... but some of the coworkers are shits, there's some ridiculous procedures, a few kinks need to seriously be worked out. I don't like it near as much as working at the vet clinic (which I did a few days this month), but for all practical purposes, I like it enough to do it again.

Besides all that, my summer has consisted of a few smaller trips (the beach, the ranch, the ranch at Goldthwaite), Hill's (there's been some amazing concerts this year), taking care of the soups (Gumbo chases feral hogs and Chili is a fabulous roach killer, she's been playing with one during the entirety of me writing this), and keeping mom sane (this is her second major move this year and I've had to help keep her from killing people multiple times). Oh! I also bought my aunt's truck, Oscar, from her and today I put new bigger tires on it (courtesy of Daniel and his step dad, Scott). I don't think I'm gonna be able to get the paint fixed this summer (sucks) because when Chili ate the string, she also ate all of my money cushion, but I gotta save money to pay for some aspect of school, so that's how life goes.

But..... I've been up since 5:30am and I'm tired and Chili's through playing with her roach, so I'm gonna go to bed...
