The Sugary Smell of Springtime

Mar 04, 2004 22:17

Survived another week full of tests and work, but I survived. I'm doing really well in my grad class (Globalization) which gives me some hope that I'm not a total idiot. I still am not totally sure what I want to do when I get out of here, but hey, I have time.
Submitted the proposal for the summer research grant that I really really want. Really hard to get them, but no harm in applying, I guess.
In terms of housing, I'm most likely living in Squirrel Hill next year, on Forbes and Murray. It's a really nice place, kind of pricy, but right on the bus line and in a really nice neighborhood.
Most of my friends are either doing block housing in Shirley apts or living on Craig, so it stinks that I won't be near them. However, considering how busy I am, it won't really matter too much, as I won't be home much. I'll visit of course :)
Spring break starts tomorrow! Leaving for Hilton Head, SC on Saturday. Since Erin's family has a time-share thing, the trip is going to be around $150 max, which is a SWEET deal for Spring Break. I can't wait!

God bless the daylight
the sugary smell of springtime
Remembering when you were mine
In a still suburban town
When every Thursday I'd brave those mountain passes
and you'd skip your early classes
And we'd learn how our bodies worked

God damn the black night with all of its foul temptations
I've become what I've always hated when I was with you then
We looked like giants in the back of my gray subcompact
fumbling to make contact as the others slept inside

And together there in a shroud of frost
the mountain air began to pass through
every pane of weathered glass
and I held you closer then anyone would ever get

do you remember the JAMC and reading aloud from magazines?
I dont know about you, but I swear on my name
They could smell it on me
and I've never been too good with secrets
