There is a snowstorm...?

Somewhere around two inches of snow, and we've been shut down since Tuesday afternoon. We're far enough outside of the city to have been spared the clusterfuck that has been Metro Atlanta. Metro traffic is nasty in general, but if you needed more convincing to avoid the roads in the event of a catastrophic weather event (or zombie apocalypse), scroll down a bit on this link. I would be interested in seeing a comparison of that data vs. ordinary rush hour gridlock, I'm hoping that somebody with the time/know-how/computational power makes that analysis.

So it's basically been a free vacation for me. On that note, I've had time for more 3D modeling; here's the result of [insert medium-large number] hours of work: Dungeness Crab Mark VIII:

I've had recent technical/philosophical differences with other file-hosting sites, so I now have a DeviantArt account (and am already stalking several of you there) with a few more crab shots for the curious. I'm still finding UV-mapping/texturing to be problematic, but basic coloring is pretty easy, as you can see. I do intend to animate this one (I've already done a simple claw pinch), which will surely take another [insert medium-large number] hours of fiddling.

And I was delighted to discover that the scientific name for the dungeness is cancer magister, so I'm totally putting a silly wizard hat on it later.
