So today was a little bit of a shit-storm. I woke up feeling great and decided to shake that feeling of being unproductive by shaving the beard that had recently sprouted on my face while I was too busy to notice. Then I went to Camden and avoided mum's bitching about the "laid back artist types" who are organising this local arts & community event this weekend. I couldn't find any shorts I wanted and the jeans that I did want we either too expensive, gone or long in the leg from the old-school skater style.
I did however get a phone call about performing onstage at the Under 1 Sky event. WOW!!
It was great until I got home and found out that lil old me is supposed to occupy a 17m x 17m stage. Alone. I move more than most of the old GBH crew when I spin but not enough to cover 289metres squared! Not nearly. So this evenings been a blind panic of me trying to figure out if I can play some tunage to back me up while I spin (thankfully it's looking promising) and embellish on my moves to get me to cover more of the stage. I doubt moving back and forth (depth-wise) would help much, so I'll focus on working the front of the stage as much as I can. Unfortunately I can't use fire and it'll be too light for glowsticks, so I'll just swap between my tail and sock poi. Tomorrow I'll teach myself a couple of throw/catches (hopefully the learning will be encouraged by necessity?) and I'll try and figure out how to move a bit more too. I doubt I'll be flipping and cartwheeling all over the place, but maybe I can work some turns and 360's in there??
Anyway, wish me luck. I really need it for this one!
[tho my backup plan is just to get really subversive and steal a mic and improvise some kinda standup set about looking like an aggressive rocker and life with people giving you evils lol)
