HNY!

New Years is one of those holidays i really enjoy. even though the "beginning" of the year has no more significance than December 21 (for example), the holiday would have the same impact no matter which day Gregory ultimately decided to begin the calendar.

i just like the optimism it seems to bring people. that, and there are so few religious connotations associated with it, that there is little room for spoilage ;)

as for me, i'm very optimistic concerning this 2008 thing. i'm beginning to gain the focus, discipline and self-confidence necessary to enjoy life as fully as can be expected. and, well, that's a considerable improvement, wouldn't you say?

current plans:
1. have my first appointment with the psychiatrist a couple hours from now. i feel i've made tremendous strides in my mental/emotional well-being since the time i arranged the appointment, but still intend to go through with it - to explore the possibilities of further improvement. and no, this isn't the one with a 36-page questionaire written by a failing 9th-grader... this is someone i think i can respect.
2. massage therapy. i'm looking forward to this because i've had this awful pain in my right foot the past 9 days or so, forcing me to limp at times. i think it's muscular in nature.
3. i'll be joining some very cool friends in Denver tonight for some Paris on the Platte and card games, followed by a sleepover. this is so i can be in Denver early enough on Friday to...
4. get fingerprinted by the TSA on a weekday before they close, as per new requirements regarding the renewal of the hazmat endorsement on my license. i don't like the idea of this, but it's useless to argue with anti-terrorism fervour.
5. hang out with more friends before returning to my home Friday night.

something i didn't plan on was inhaling a bit of coffee while i still had a mouthful, forcing me to cough up coffee through my nose just now. oww!

future plans:
1. on 20071205, my 5-year anniversary (from my re-hire date) rolled around without any fanfare. so... i'll be taking advantage of my newly-acquired THREE weeks of paid vacation this year! i'm not quite sure when it'll happen, but i'll be visiting Oldenburg, Lower Saxony, Germany again for sure. i also hope to squeeze in visits to Hamburg, Germany... Prague, Czech Republic and Budapest, Hungary. Iceland will probably have to wait for when i can afford such a costly luxury.
