Are you sure you're not retarded?

I love it when you have very high expectations for something and they still manage to get blown away.

I love Zach Braff. He's got great lips. You know...for a dude.

Seriously though, i had such incredibly high hopes for Garden State; based on his performance on Scrubs alone i think he's one of the best and most consistently hilarious young actors there are. Now, you can add writer and director to that list.

I don't really want to talk about how it made me feel, because i think that, given the masterful melding of humour, pain, sadness, and the absurd, would cheapen it somehow. I found that during the course of the movie, my smile grew continuously throughout, even during the sadder parts. There's just something about it that makes me so happy to have witnessed it. There's an energy to the movie that doesn't happen very often; it's like a living thing. Young Braff has some amazing ideas, and a genuine eye for filmmaking. Some of the shots in this movie dropped my jaw; it really is, in many ways, a visually and emotionally beautiful film full of subtelties in story and character that reveal themselves only after you've sat and dissected it for a while.

And Natalie Portman - my god, she was amazing. I've never really been able to watch her in any other movie because every time i look at her i see that fucking make-up from those asinine Star Wars prequels. Which is a shame, because she's a beautiful girl with an amazing smile. She was fabulous in this show, so full of energy and emotion. It was breathtaking to watch her mood swings on camera. It's so simple, but one of my favourite things about the movie was the progression of the two main characters. At the beginning, Sam is a bouncy, energetic, pinballing motormouth and Andrew is a sedated, almost slow-moving, sad-ass bastard. But over the course of the film, through their relationship and decisions, they even each other out. It's amazing to watch Andrew slowly come alive as he works the drugs out of his system, and having someone to expend her energy onto seems to level out Sam. They just handle it so well.

In short, i guess, there's a ton of things i could say about this movie. The only thing that really matters is that you should go see it. Because i loved it, and i can't imagine anybody not loving it.

Seriously, i'm so impressed.
