WEEPING OWLS;; PG

umm a super random one-shot that is au, strange and has a small hint of a pairing that has no basis whatsoever. lol

It lays there on the hardwoord floor in front of her, calling her name. It once could have been described by the color silver, but now it remains a pathetic matte color, meaningless and brassy. It's so desolate, still in the same position for years that dust has collected around it and yet it's untouchable itself, not a single speck of dirt able to make a difference amongst the grittiness.

It's a key.

Her heart leaps in her throat for the fifth time in the minute, and although she dare not look she knows by nature that the every tingle in her body is signaling that her fingers are quivering. She tosses her bangs to the side with a little flip, anxious and unnerved. She counts to three, slowly and steadily - ONE. TWO. THREE.

One.

Two.

Three.

One.

Two.

Three.

Her fingers end up on the tip of her nose and she gives her precocious signature mole a little pinch. Holding her breath, she plunges down to the ground, bending over to grab it. The key's in her palm, cold, hard and unforgiving. She knows she's not supposed to look at it, the faint words of someone's advice itching at the back of her mind, vaguely, very vaguely but it's so cold and little in her hand, she needs to know what's so special about it. Why this key?

A quick shot of a breath exhales out of her, and she opens her palm that unconsciously trembled into a strict fist on its own. It's nothing special, she admires about the key. It's nothing special at all. Disappointment waves over her for a second, before she realizes that she doesn't know why. It's too late though for anything longer.

The key drops to the ground.

Her hand shakes. Slowly at first, then quick, unsteady shots that never stop. The jolts seep into her arm, up to her collarbones, inching down to her knees. They buckle in a heartbeat and she collapses to the ground, centimeters away from the key. The poison reaches to her head, filling it in slowly in an undefying swet kind of matter. She concentrates on the key one last time, as it lays there besides her, teasing her, practically mockingly her in a sadistic way. She reaches for it once more, just one more time to feel that cold, indescribable feeling that she had only been able to feel for a second. Her fingers tremble as the pads of her thumb brush upon it, and with her shaky fingers she clasps on to it, the only friend she has left in this world.

Still curious to the very end, Qri manages to flip the key over to the other side, the side you're never supposed to see. Two last tears stream down her face, falling down the bridge of her nose, dipping at the edge of her mole. Her body stops shaking at last, the jolts gone, the key clanging to the ground once more, a soft clink, clink, clink and it stops in the same place it had been when she had first found it.

An engravement glistens amongst the dust on the side of the key. The only light in the dismal room. 'I love you forever - Kyuhyun.'
