DUSTSTRINGS;; G

His fingers trembled with care.

Strings were delicate, lone pieces that needed to be handled with expertise.

It had been a while, years - the first chord hung in the air, raw.

He slacked his jaw, his head dipped low in forced concentration.

He sat up in the sofa, eyes went dark and he thought of what it would be like to be in solitude, in a world where no one knew what his name was.

He was fifteen again, eyebrows ungroomed, hair unruly.

He struck another chord, and then another until a familiar tune melted out.

Muscles relaxed and soon he was a musical genius by default.

I should have never quit, he thought.

By the end of the night, three full melodies filled the room, wall to wall in smooth rhythm and with glide.

It was like he always knew.

He bought the guitar, left the store with a jest of pride, confidence.

What is that? a passerby snorted.

Like idols can play instruments, was that a taxi driver?

He’s not fooling anybody - he can’t even lipsync.

Guitar reached the bottom of the dumpster truck.

But don’t worry, the homeless man from the next street over picked up the morning before trash was collected.

Jonghyun still dreams of that other world.

quickly inspired by this because i always found it a bit fascinating that jjong was such a rocker/musician before he became an idol but he barely brings up the fact that he can play the guitar now and i wonder why - is it an insecurity or something about holding on to the past? idk, but i'm so curious~ (also because jonghyun+guitar=otp)
