Messages from the Old.

I think my iPod may be killing my creativity. Honestly, I love the thing, and I'd hate to live without it. But I can't help but notice I don't post or write as much as I used to. That mental downtime from which ideas used to spring is now being filled with news, politics and comedy.

Current flavor of the month: Old Jews Telling Jokes. I get it as a podcast, but they're all there on YouTube. Do a search and thank me later.

Another creative casualty is my cartooning/drawing, which I can link firmly to my constant intake of anime. If I'm watching some Showtime series or DVDs of 24, I can follow the action while sketching on my pad. But with anime, I have to read the subtitles. You can't read dialogue and draw boobies at the same time. I've tried and ended up missing dialogue . . . and boobies! Maybe it's time to take some Japanese classes?

I gave my dad a call yesterday, it being his 71st birthday and all. You can't talk to my dad for five minutes and hang up. This man can chat. Usually after I say, "Great talking to you, but I gotta go," I'm still gonna be on the phone for another half hour. It's not that I mind, it's just that I have to plan ahead. The key is not to bring up any of his hot-button topics if your ear is already getting sore. Still, whatta charmer this guy still is. 71 and the ladies still flirt with him. Mostly because of his curley mustache. Drives my mom straight up the wall. Which, I guess, is a form of payback.
