This old thing's over a decade old, but it still gives me a chuckle.
The turkey is everything, isn't it? All week long it's been, "You all ready to eat turkey Thursday?", or "Have a happy Turkey-Day!" Turkey-turkey-turkey . . . this is only the second Thanksgiving I've had since going veggie and I've got to say I was beginning to feel a bit left out. SO many people asking me about turkey and talking about turkey I was beginning to think that the entire holiday was about dinner and nothing else. But it occurred to me yesterday that all this turkey-talk is obscuring the true meaning of this wonderful holiday. When you get right down to it, turkey isn't what's important about Thanksgiving.
It's the pie.
Screw the bird, I'm going straight to the pie! Eat all the turkey you want; more pie for me! We vegetarians get to go straight to desert. THPPPPPPPB!
Eddie the Mall Custodian was telling me that his kid thought he was supposed to get presents for Thanksgiving. Eddie clued the kid in, although I do think the rugrat has a point. I mean, we should be thankful for something. Thanksgiving could use a little commercialism to spark it up a bit anyway. Pilgrims are very dull . . . and who needs to buckle their hat?
Of all the people who wished me a good holiday, it was Eddie who set down a bucket and walked across a parking lot to offer me his hand along with holiday wishes. Eddie is really good people. Something else I can be thankful for, I guess.
I get all of tomorrow with my wife. That tops everything.
Enjoy your pie.
