So, I have reached case 3 of Phoenix Wright 3 in my replay through the series.

I think overall, I would say 2 is the best game in the series. I say this because of the strength of the cases 2-2 and 2-4. 2-2 was pretty surprising the first time I played through it and one of the few times (maybe even the only time) where I can sympathize with the real killer. Then in 2-4 you have the additional layered story of Mayoi being kidnapped, and the semi-twist ending to that case is really good. Overall, the writing is really rock solid. 2-3 is kind of a stupid case, but I think I only say that because I didn't really like any of the NPCs in that case (they're all circus freaks heh).

Looking back at PW1, 1-2, with Chihiro's death, was fairly plain (then again, it's the first real case so it can't be blamed). 1-3, the Tonosaman case, isn't particularly special either. The real money of course is 1-4 and the DL6 case and in the re-release, 1-5, both of which are pretty good.

Once you get to PW3... it's really neat that 3-1 is a tutorial case featuring a young Chihiro, and from what I recall the Chinami (Dahlia) storyline is fairly compelling as it stretches through 3-1, 3-4, and 3-5. The problem is the "filler" cases. 3-2 (with the Kamen Mask thief) was fairly contrived, and it's also your first exposure to Godot. Godot's arguments always seem pretty random, they never struck me as plausible as Mitsurugi's or Franziska's (not that they don't have implausible objections sometimes but still). 3-3 though is probably the worst case in the series, with the whole extremely contrived "fake Naruhodou" storyline, which somehow requires multiple people to think that somebody who does not look nor talk like Naruhodou actually is him.

Anyway of course after this I'll move on to 3-4 and 3-5, and we'll see if the Dahlia storyline is as good as I remember. I'm debating whether to replay PW4 again. I really didn't like it when I played it before, but I've only played it once, unlike the other PW games, so possibly I haven't given it a fair shot. Then again, Guild Wars 2 comes out Saturday, so I very likely may not get to it.
