Kind of an addendum to the last post, but I need to find a new Western games site to visit, too. For JP sites I'm well-covered, since I have both Famitsu's and Dengeki's official sites, as well as Hachima's blog and the Sokuhou Hokanko 2ch-aggregator site. But for western websites, all I've been following is Joystiq. I gave up on Kotaku a long time ago since a lot of their articles aren't about games at all, or are direct ripoffs of Hachima articles, or heck, there's been a few articles fawning over
xhezachanx. (I believe they referred to BurgerTime World Tour as 'the game hezachan's fiancee made', instead of referring to it as 'the game
koreagle made'. Just a little bit creepy.) Entertaining for their audience I'm sure, but when I go to a games news website, I expect you know. News about games.
Lately Joystiq's been kind of wavering offtrack too. A lot of their articles are just "hey here's a trailer" or "new firmware is out" followed by a snarky comment. But even worse, they've started doing some columns which are basically just some guys wankery, not any NEWS. One of their columnists is now writing about JRPGs with designed-to-cause-controversy titles like "How to fix Final Fantasy". If I want to read games wankery, well... I'd read my own LJ, harhar. But again, if I go to Joystiq, I want actual games news.
I've gone to andriasang and siliconera too in the past, but both of those sites seem a little more JP-games focused, and I have plenty of places to get JP games news already. I think I tried destructoid before too but something about their writing style annoyed me, I can't remember what it was.
