Some comments on this season's shows:
Guilty Crown: Up to ep 3. It's kind of meh so far. The big selling points are the music (by the famed ryo/supercell) and the character designs, but plotwise, it completely fits into the typical "young boy randomly obtains superpower and has to come to grips with it" that about ten billion other anime have done before. I usually really hate these shows because the main character typically is a complete wimp and/or idiot, and Guilty Crown hasn't been an exception yet. Hell, the main character gets sad because somebody calls him "baka". As far as stupidity goes, he decides to trust a drug addict. The only plus is that that immediately turns around to bite him in the ass about five minutes later, so yeah.
Fate/Zero: Holy crap episodes 4 and 5 were utterly fantastic. The fights were actually tense and worth watching, and the whole atmosphere of the series is great. Best show hands down this season. Rider is super hilarious and I like him a lot, even though I was originally miffed that he's a dude in Zero. Lancer is pretty cool too. Of course Saber kicks ass. Urobuchi's writing does not disappoint. The odd thing is that Kajiura Yuki does the music, but I actually haven't really noticed any impressive pieces yet, certainly not like Madoka Magica's godlike music. In fact, I think instead it's the OP, 'oath sign', which is the best piece yet in it.
Incidentally for those of you don't know, you can watch each episode on the official nicovideo channel for free, but only for 7 days after it airs (so you could watch Ep 5 right now but not 1-4):
http://ch.nicovideo.jp/channel/fate-zero/And yes, official English subs too! No need to rely on a fansubbing group which may or may not actually understand the JP language.
Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai!: I was really looking forward to the show because Yuu plays the main character, but so far I've been disappointed. The original game had the main character (Yamato) and five main girls, and basically three of the girls really like Yamato, but Yamato likes Yuu's character, who doesn't really see him that way. So far the anime episodes have mostly been one of the other girls spending a lot of time fawning over Yamato, which is really boring. At least I don't mind Yamato, which is quite an achievement given how much I often hate main male characters.
Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai: No surprise but Ep 3 was even more fanservice, as Yozora forced Sena to read passages out loud from an H-game, and then there was also the requisite Sena pool/bathing suit scenes. I'm pretty sure the only reason I'm watching this show is cause of Inoue Marina/Itou Kanae, LOL.
More than one person has told me I should watch Mawaru Penguindrum, but I think I'll leave that for the "wait til it's finished" backburner as I'm juggling too many shows already.
