Over the centuries, mankind has tried many ways of combating the forces of evil... prayer, fasting, good works and so on. Up until Doom, no one seemed to have thought about the double-barrel shotgun. Eat leaden death, demon.
Terry Pratchett

Actually, many people have thought about fighting evil with violence.--so many, in fact that the world has become a far too violent place. Almost as soon as we invented good people and evil people, the good people started beating the crap out of the evil ones.

In my view people have to try and resolve their differences with words and deeds, instead of violence. As I read the this text, however, I imagine that Pratchett describes a Doom where a zombie Apocalypse occur. If we would assume it is possible, everybody knows there are no words of reasoning with this creatures, but only the blunt forse of weapons will save you of being devoured.
I think people can not afford to be total pacifists. Life, sometimes, present you with situations where one has to put their principals aside and defend their life or the well-being of their loved ones by physical forse.
