I can’t follow the discussion in the
news journal because I cannot even open the page. I’ve tried, many times, with the "?format=light" suffix, with images turned off, etc. It hangs my browser every single time.
But the company’s saying they have to interpret an "interest" as "being in favor of or promoting" is absurd. It’s like something out of Lewis Carroll, "When I use a word, it means what I want it to mean." They can’t even apologize properly; they’re still looking for a way to blame it on the members!
Since I don’t have a paid account to threaten to reverse charges on, or a sponsored account that benefits the company with ad space, there’s not much I can do to affect the company financially. I did join
fandom_counts, so if they decide to move en masse, I can follow. I think it’s better to stay and fight for our territory, though.
On third thought, however, I think the "hide a tree in the forest" approach might make an even better statement. If everyone in a group the size of fandom_counts decided to add interests like "young stuff" and "keeping it in the family" to their profiles, the sheer numbers might make the company think twice about ever doing another sweep. They would have to (horrors!) INVESTIGATE, as they should have done in the first place.
By the way, "young stuff" refers to toys, video games, and the like. "Keeping it in the family" refers to scrapbooking vacations, school plays, etc.
