Why do men get pissy when I won't open the door for them? I mean, really, I just have to vent because this has happened twice yesterdeay and it's really getting to me. First time, it's an officer. He's still after my neighbors for god knows what, and he knocks on my door to ask if I've seen them. So...
Him: *knock knock knock*
Me: *too short to see through the damn peephole* "Who is it?"
Him: *knock knock knock*
Me: WHO IS IT??
Him: Police officer Wassisface. Open the door.
Me: *opens door a crack*
Him: Miss, when an officer of the law knocks on your door, you need to open it first time, you understand?
Me: I can't see through the peep hole and you weren't answering.
Him: Well, get a step stool.
I mean, I know he was just doing his job, but really. It's not my fault that they put the peep hole so high, even Raven can't see out it without wearing platform shoes.
Second time was some damn teenager selling magazines.
Him: *knock knock knock*
Me: Who is it?
Him: *knock knock knock*
Me: WHO IS IT??
Him: Uh, hi ma'am, can you open the door?
Me: Not until you tell me what you want.
Him: I'm not going to rape you if that's what you're worried about.
Me: Do you think someone who WAS going to rape me would tell me?
Him: Ok. Could you just open the door?
Me: Why won't you tell me what you want?
Him: Because I"m selling something and if I say that, you'll just leave me out here.
Me: You're right. *walks away*
I mean, it was 6 pm, wasn't even dark out, but really. If I was knocking on some girl's door, and she didn't want to open it, I wouldn't get all defensive. Do you know how many times women answer the door without even thinking about it and have their rapist/murderer just barge in? I hear these news stories and I think, "who would answer the door to an unknown male?" I mean, it's one thing if they're in uniform. Then I have to admit, I'd open the door. But why do strange men think it's ok to knock on doors and then get offended when the young female won't open it for them?
I think I'm just going to stop answering the door because everyone I know tells me before they come over, and everyone else is a stranger and I'm not letting them in anyway. Except the policemen. Ok, so maybe I'll buy a step stool for their sake. Damn, couldn't they just find my neighbors meth lab or whatever and stop bothering me? Is that so much to ask?
