Hi, welcome wagon! Welcome to my shiny new LJ, where I'll post my Sims-related ramblings. I may be known to some as Skrood from GoS; I've previously been hanging around LJ as anonymous when I'm stalking and as
unfthmblelmr when I'm commenting. My uninteresting and boring personal life can also be tracked at
my tumblr, though it's highly unlikely you'd be interested anyway, seeing as my life is rather unexciting. I'm not the sort to go on an adventure everyday, I prefer to lounge in the comfort of my home and playing computer games.
A little about me, I'm a 19-year-old polytechnic student from Singapore, I'm at the crossroads now as after two and a half years in a film course I've decided it wasn't my cup of tea and I've toyed with many ideas about what I could be in the next few years. I'm fluent in English and Mandarin, vegetarian and atheist by upbringing, though I understand and respect that for many, their religious faith is their pillar of strength and their motivation in life. But for me, this pillar of strength and motivation comes in the form of my wonderful boyfriend and my loving family members.
I'm not at all a creator, I have absolutely no understanding of creating for TS2 and apart from a few burning ideas I generally don't have the interest to create. I'm not sure if this will change, but for now, I'd rather not try in case my bork my freshly-reinstalled game.
Speaking of which, my game is indeed very freshly-reinstalled. The reinstall was not motivated by crashes and bugs or anything dramatic (a.k.a a gigantic Ball Of Fire that can be seen from space), but simply because I had accumulated enough junk in my Downloads folder to compromise my gameplay experience. While taking out CC would've been the simplest and most ideal solution, I've got a strange problem where removed CC will sometimes still show up in catalogs, screaming neon blue or dressed in pubes, as if a mesh was missing; yet when I check my Downloads folder all related CCs have already been deleted. I'm not the kind of meticulous Simmer who'd pry at every folder to find out what's wrong, nor am I patient enough to evaluate every piece of CC and sort out those I want or don't want, so heck! I just purged all but 2GBs of my old Downloads folder and reinstalled it all over again. After a post-reinstallation download spree, as well as a real-life shopping spree, I'm now the proud owner of a 3GB Downloads folder and two new SPs. I've come a hella long way, seeing as my old Downloads folder was probably coming in at 10-15GBs.
So far, I have pretty much most of the collection, the only EP I'm missing is Bon Voyage and the SPs I'm missing are Family Fun, Glamour Life and Happy Holiday. I really, really want to get BV but I'm having a lot of trouble locating a copy around town, and I don't really care for the other SPs except for a few items here and there which I can totally live without. BV is now as good as extinct in most game stores because 1) EA doesn't produce them anymore, 2) Most shops have already sold all their copies, and 3) All the shops are expecting EA to bundle BV with other SPs, like they'd done with UNI, OFB and Pets. Looks like I can kiss my beach lots goodbye unless I start exploring eBay.
I was once a hardcore TS1 player in my childhood, and ever since TS2 was released I never looked back. (I can't even if I want to, all my TS1 games are lost.) I tried a bit of TS3 on my laptop but, what can I say, I just didn't quite enjoy the experience. The graphics is stellar, even on a laptop; some concepts were very interesting, like the idea of Traits and Recipes and stuff like that; but overall I didn't enjoy the pace of gameplay, the Sims themselves and the fact that installing any piece of CC is a real pain in the ass. My biggest gripe had to be the Sims; I'd been so used to how expressive TS2 Sims are, that TS3 Sims just appeared cold and numb to me. They were expressionless, wooden, and highly independent, perhaps too independent. They just lack that child-like touch that TS2 Sims have in my opinion. So I went back to TS2 almost immediately. Now TS3 is just a vacation filler, for when I need my Sims fix when I'm out of town and not next to my PC.
Okay, enough rambling, when I get up later I'm gonna fire up my game and start afresh :) Maybe I might start a Legacy or a Build-A-City-Challenge. Let's all hope that my attention span will be enough to - looky, a speck on the screen! I'mma call you Speckie and you shall be mine~...
