I have decided to post the letter I mentioned earlier.
To: McAfee
From: Me
To Whom It May Concern:
You may cancel any suscriptions you think I have with you. Your software has angered me so much that I may never again buy a McAfee product.
Firstly, I tried numerous ways to change the options so your stupid update program would accept the fact that that computer is not normally connected to the WWW. Yet, it continued to nag me about not having updated its files. It continued to attempt to connect to the non-connected network. Finally, I thought to myself, "Maybe they will have fixed this stupidity in the latest version," so I took the time to change my network configuration to give that computer temporary access to the Web. To no avail, for the program continued to nag me.
Secondly, as I browsed through the "Security Center", I noticed that it kept saying my computer was not properly protected against various things. One of these was hacker attacks, so I ran your "test" and passed it with flying colors. You see, I have a third-party firewall on my network, and it stopped the attempts your test tried. Unfortunately, your programmers seem to be more interested in money than accuracy, for the "Security Center" continued to claim that I was vulnerable to hacker attacks. It was almost as though you people think that if I don't buy YOUR firewall, I must not be protected. I am insulted by this assumption, and I am not pleased. I seem to remember a few other things your "Security Center" claimed I was lacking, but considering how it responded to my firewall situation, I'm doubtful I could expect any better.
McAfee should go back to the way it used to be. Back in the golden days, McAfee gained profits by having a reputation for being absolutely the best virus scanner available. McAfee lost my business when it forgot that its job was to provide superior virus protection and thought it could make more money by nagging its loyal customers to pay for services they either do not need or already have from another source. If McAfee can return to its old model, I would reconsider.
As it is, I have uninstalled your rediculous Security Center and made the decision to spend money on a competitor's virus technology.
Thank you for your time. Thank you for removing me from ALL McAfee email lists, which I trust you will do immediately. This is a request to that effect.
Under God,
Skreyola
