Talladega Nights

I'm torn on this movie. The first was was funny. In fact, it was hilarious. I was loving it. The second half? It blew. I actually got up to stretch my legs in the latter part of the movie. My advice is go see the first half, then when it gets to the "that's just sad" portion of the humor, take a walk. Come back for the last 20-30 minutes. The movie was funny, the story was boring.

Also, I'm still trying to figure out why it took a huge jump in the timeline. The movie opens up wite late 90's-style cars. ESPN is doing the broadcasting. Drivers are wearing helmets with no shields, only the bug goggles. Then, boom--Nextel's the sponsor. We've got the FOX guys doing a race, and the crappy NBC guys covering a race. There are shields on the helmets. They even jumped from 76 to Sunoco during the movie. Can anybody explain why there was so much shifting occuring when they were racing at Talladega? It's my understanding that drivers try not to use the brakes on the track, so why would drivers not be in the highest gear?

Authority Zero is playing on the 26th. Anybody going?
