Bob Dylan should not have won the Nobel Prize in literature.
I'm guessing the handful of us who still use LJ don't disagree on this, but I thought I'd put up a post for discussion anyway, if anybody feels like it.
Here's a polemical statement to get the ball rolling:
Lyrics, denuded of their music, are not poetry*. If they work as poetry, they're shitty lyrics.
*I mean poetry in the 20th-century sense, after it had been stripped of its oral tradition and reduced to mere texts.
