Ok, so I briefly mentioned that I went to con and had fun. Whoop-de-frickin-doo. Here's a bit more detail.
I got up WAY earlier than I wanted to, went in to town (which means going to Boston for non-locals) for an appointment, then met up with Katie for the drive out to Amherst. Katie's car is full of awesome, by which I mean it has AC, music, and little Batman/Yoda/etc. figurines on the dash. We made good time, met up with others. Others being Katie, Me, Eric, Amy, Jessu, Bob, Ellen, Ashley. Most of you have no idea who these people are. But they're good people.
For down to NJ, it was me, Katie, Eric, and Amy. It was a long drive, but we did ok. I remember us talking a lot, but I have no idea what about.
We get to the rooms, start drinking (too much on my part) and get ready for tomorrow.
SalonCon is a new con, so there was a fair degree of disorganization. But everyone was so nice, and thanks go out to Cris, who got me a discounted ticket! There were rooms of shiny, pretty things. I got a little purse and some beads and Eric got me a little ribbon necklace thing to go with my dress. (I had been complaining how I didn't have a necklace to wear with my ball dress.)
We had a cream tea, which meant amazing tea and yummy scones. At our table was a lovely lady named Karen, and in the background was harp music. I had "Silver Jubilee", this incredible white tea. If you come across it, try it!
Costumes were AMAZING. Not mine, but other peoples. Will link to pics on request.
I picked up a couple of BPAL scents, as well. And the burlesque was somewhat diverting, in a hit-or-miss sort of way. Sitting next to Eric, we would comment on what was going on, which was half the fun.
After that was Voltaire, who was as fun as usual. We were the only people who danced, which I both understood and lamented. The first time you see him, you just want to watch. But his music is generally pretty upbeat, so we danced. He singled out Eric for his pith helmet, and Amy with a "grad students gone wild" remark.
After that we invited just about everyone we met to come to the room for a party, and we had a lot of people stop by and say hi. Amy and I went to invite Voltaire when we heard about another party, one with brownies! John, the speaker at one of the panels, hooked us up and we went to the brownie party. Turns out it was the VIP suite! So Amy and I chilled there and drank champagne and invited everyone there to our party.
(Interesting note: You know the men in white who come to take the loonies away? That's John- that's his job.)
I drank a lot, and had my 2nd hangover in 2 days the next morning. We left the hotel, and went to this diner. While New Jersey is known for having diners, we were blown away. The place was pretty, clean and the food was delicious, with lots of it. It was very cool, and the waiter told us (mostly dirty) jokes. We filled our stomachs, and made our way back to Amherst.
