wheeeeeeeee! what a beautiful surprise to wake to on a friday

went to see financial aid at school last week. their computers were down so they couldn't access my account. the girl at the window called the advisor who used to handle my case before she was promoted to see who handled it now. the lady told her for me to leave my info and my concerns and she'd get in touch with me. i was beginning to get frustrated again since it was nearing a week without a return phone call. then i checked my email just a few minutes ago. i got a notice from the department of education telling me they'd processed my fafsa correction. uh i guess that means one of the monkeys at psu made changes to my file again (which pisses me off on one hand but relieves me on another because it shows they're actually doing work). so i decided i'd click on the link and check out my efc (estimated family contribution) since there had been a correction and most likely an adjustment. as i was hoping to god that my efc didn't go back up to $13,000 i hit the submit button to behold the best piece of news i have received since my freshman year of school. my new efc is $0. that means my happy ass gets to go to school on grants and scholarships again. honestly people, holy fuck...i haven't had a free ride since my first year!! this is gonna help so much in the long run because of the transfer setting me back a year. if all goes right and this ends up all true, i'm honestly gonna end up loving financial aid at psu instead of hating it.

p.s. re: headline. yes i honestly did just wake up about a half hour ago. it's odd, but not totally slackerish as i went to bed at 7am this morning.

EDIT 1:11pm : just checked out my award info online. things aren't adding up so i hope they awarded me something and then realized there was a correction to be made. right now it says i'm getting a pell grant for $4,050 and that they're offering me a subsidized stafford loan for $5,500 and that i get $7,227 from the VA for education benefits. uh things are adding up right because the total cost of attendance for the '05-'06 school year is $17,706 and the total of the aid figures above is $16,777...leaving just shy of a thousand dollars unaccounted for. guess i'll keep track of it over the next week and if nothing changes by next friday it'll be time for another trip to the financial aid office to see what the hell is going on like usual.
