So, PolyDay. I went with trepidation, as I said; I wasn't in a good headspace at all (for unconnected reasons), so when Col and I arrived in the break between workshops, and the whole place was teeming with people, and I desperately needed something to drink because I was parched, and there was generalised chaos and far too many people... I got a cup of tea and we scarpered back outside, and chatted to those we recognised, and then let ourselves be dragged to the pub. There, we heard tales of organisational chaos that tallied with what I'd seen in the brief time I was there, which didn't really improve my opinion of any of it. Rosi Lugosi, it appeared, had had to cancel, so that killed my interest in seeing the evening stuff. Would I go again? Well, if I were meeting a group of people I really wanted to see... or felt the need to go fish, then, maybe. I can't see any other reasons to, however.
So anyway, we ended up in a pub, having a conversation about linguistics and education and all manner of things, which was great! Good to have actual conversations with J and D, and always nice to see E and M.
Then, off to East India Quay for birthday tiki bbq. Sloshing two pints of beer around with nothing much for them to hang onto, I was glad there was plenty of food to sober up on. Again, nice conversations, good crowd. Two people tried to persuade us to come along to Slimelight, but I'm beyond broke atm, and had probably had enough of people, so home we went.
I've finished Cryptonomicon today, so you can tell it wasn't action-packed as such.
