Cacti

Now I know it's hard to kill cacti, but I may just have managed it... if I had three small cacti in plastic pots, and the soil was totally dried out, would there be a way to revive the plants? I realise that if I just drown them in water, they'll be dead for sure, but I was thinking whether it was possible to gradually re-hydrate the soil. Or do I need to repot them? And if I stick them into really rich soil, they'll just die of shock as well, won't they?

Maybe I need to just give up on them, eh...

Right, off to the shops with me. I've got some good ideas for containers, thanks everyone. It's probably going to take a while to sort out, but then, it's the middle of summer, I shouldn't really be doing lots of planting anyway.

I need one of those books that tells you month by month what needs to be done. Or, indeed, a Handy Person who can do the same.

[Edit 19:05] Or to look through my bookmarks, and realise it exists already: Gardeners' World What To Do Now. Doh!
