I’ve got the same sort of tension running through me right now that a precognitive person would have if they were watching Christopher Reeve’s final steeplechase. I’m not sure there was a more fitting metaphor for the death of humanity’s latest try at perfect government than seeing the wheelchair-bound actor that played Superman breathing with the assistance of expensive machines.
I have a feeling that something has Gone Wrong. I have a feeling that the bad guys are winning.
I’m watching my favourite television shows gather popularity only to have greedy shoehorns and crowbars pry it apart to expose the daylight within. Forces born not of creativity try to get a credit in order to secure future audiences and tweak just a little bit here and a little bit there. They want their initials on something that people like without being the creative force behind its inception.
Either that, or good shows get bullets in the head before they’ve barely left the starting gate because of the failure of financial wizards to see the possibilities, have faith or look in their hearts instead of the ratings chart for just one more season.
I’m watching good movies take risks that pay off only to have them be turned into sprawling, orgiastic, money-bonfire sequels of special effects.
I remember a time without spin. Or maybe I’m just remembering the past through the eyes of a child.
I understand why older people pine for the old days. It’s not that the old days were actually better than these ones, it’s just that their younger minds didn’t notice.
I’m just bitter at the moment concerning a certain season ender that had the taint of meddlers all over it. I’ve seen the slide from about three episodes back and it hurts a special part of me inside to see something get it dead right from the start only to mutate into a muddy co-creation that is the product of a struggle between financial and creative minds.
I feel quite let down. I’m looking forward to an explanation.
