my allergies

are giving me an insane headache that won't go away no matter how much zyrtec and claritin D I take. and I'm pmsing. while individually not that big of a deal, these circumstances have combined to lay me into a pretty eh mood for the past few days. I perked up for a bit yesterday, obviously, but I never got another call. oh well though, we're probably going to chill friday or saturday, so it's really not that big of a deal.

today was too nice to be cranky anyway. I left classes early to go to lola's graduation, meeting up with shawn around the corner from my school (where lola lives, conveniently). she had already left so me and him walked to my house to drop my stuff off and then took the subway to his, so he could change (it was my job to make sure he made it on time..and it was lucky I was there because he was planning on walking all the way to his dad's, which I swiftly objected to). I sat in this massage chair thing in the apartment for like 20 minutes while he showered and put clean things on, it was soooo nice.

we took the train to the actual ceremony, which was just as boring as one would expect it to be, except for the bit where lola got her diploma of course. then lola, me, lola's parents, lola's childhood tutor lilly, daisy's dog-walker susan, rachel cz and shawn all headed to this place called sweetie pie's for dinner. my mom and a bunch of assorted family and family friends of lola's were already gathered there waiting for us. some people from lola's dad's office (who I worked with last summer, they're awesome) showed up pretty soon and even rich showed up later.

oh my god the food was sooooooo goooood. best honey mustard dip I've ever stuck a carrot into. richest, gooiest mac&cheese I've ever tasted (seriously, I nearly made myself sick with that shit). and the atmosphere of being surrounded by people loving and supporting and congratulating my best friend made everything even nicer.

lola's mom made a speech first, and then her dad later in the night, so I just didn't feel right about not saying something. I banged on the glass and I started talking and everything I had all planned out in my head got all jumbled as soon as lola started tearing up, and then of course I started tearing up, and I rounded it off all sappy and improvised and she leapt up and hugged me and we sniffled on each other's shoulders and it felt good. and then shawn made a speech and he was tight because I'd already said most of what he wanted to say hahaha, but it was sweet anyway. and then we stuffed ourselves with cake and I went home with my mom.

I feel really bad, because in all the commotion of the graduation I forgot that it was my own mother's birthday. and I reminded myself of it literally that same morning while I was in school, but I guess I lost the connection somewhere along the way. so later in the night she marches into my room and asks for her presents. and I did have them, sitting in the closet, and I had bought all these gift bags and tissue paper to wrap them in with the expectation that because I had went out and picked the shit up that bill would do the actually wrapping, but he didn't. so I had to bring these half-forgotten presents out to my mom in the same bag that they had been purchased in, having just had a little mini-argument with her on the train ride home. not a great feeling. I think I'm a pretty damn good friend at this point, despite having my rough spots in the past, but I can be a really shitty daughter.

ah, and because I forgot to mention it, I found out what lindsey's mom died of...thrush. if you look it up, you'll find that it's essentially a yeast infection of the mouth - not particularly deadly to those without compromised immune systems, but I guess her mom was HIV positive, which I didn't know until now.

blah, didn't mean to end this on that totally somber note though. lola also told me that lindsey is staying strong and handling at best as anyone can in that sort of situation, and that was good to hear.

cheers.
