I went to see "Triad Election" by Johnny To. I missed the first few minutes, but it seems to be about organized crime in Hong Kong. For purposes of the story, the Chairman, head of the Triad, is elected by the leaders of the various subgangs and serves for a period of two years. The current Chairman, Lok, wants an unprecedented second term.
The most important of the other candidates is Jimmy Lee, who's turned his branch of the triad business into a mostly legitimate enterprise. He thinks of himself as a businessman rather than a gangster, but circumstances force him to plunge into the illegal side of politicking.
It's pretty good, though the kennel scenes may be too intense for some viewers.
Oh, as my birthday is coming up, and because I like getting sent packages by strangers, here's my updated Amazon.com wish list. Not that I expect anyone to actually buy anything off it, but it's nice to dream.
