Friends, since this time last year, I have worked about ten weeks total. In case you haven't noticed, the economy sucks right now. There are almost no archaeology jobs in the PNW (my range at the moment is WA, ID and OR). For the past year, since my 3000 mile road trip from VA to WA, I have been scraping by on my savings, a couple of months work in Pt Angeles, and selling my stuff. This has allowed me to keep my head above water -- just barely. I'm down under $1000 right now.
But now! A couple of weeks ago, I was hired on with a tutoring firm. No clients yet, but the school year is just beginning here, last week or this coming week. AND I'm going to start working the night shift at a hotel in Everett four nights a week! It's not going to be a lot of money, but it will be enough, especially if I continue to live frugally, and remain uninsured. I'm going to keep buying and re-selling books in my spare time, because I really enjoy it, and it's nice to have that little bit of extra cash coming in.
Maybe by next summer I will have enough for a trip to the UK. Just in time for the London Olympics. Oh, dear. Hmmm.... Maybe spring or autumn then? Which will mean no Bamburgh. *sigh* But it's been three years since the last time I could afford to leave the country, and that's just way too long.
