Beachaven Winery
We went to the Beachaven Winery in Clarksville, TN today, and I must say it is one of the best I have ever visited. I didn't get to try everything they had, since their selection includes over two dozen wines, and their tasting portions were more than generous, but I was impressed by all the ones I did get a chance to taste. The tasting itself and the tour of the winery were free. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The prices were decent. Of the wines I did try, their Syrah was my favourite. It was a little on the expensive side ($18), but well worth it in my opinion. I'll definitely be visiting again sometime in the coming weeks.
Settlers of Catan
If you enjoy boardgames and haven't tried Settlers of Catan, you're missing out. It's almost like the boardgame version of Oregon Trail. Each player works to colonise the island of Catan by collecting resources (wood, clay, ore, wheat, sheep) and either turning them into roads, settlements and cities or trading them with other players to achieve their goals. You can make alliances and enemies, or lose your carefully hoarded resources to the roving bandit. Since the "board" is made up of numerous hexagonal tiles randomly places within a frame, no two games are ever the same. Once you've mastered the basic game, there's the Cities and Knights expansion to add a new level of complexity, or the Seafarers expansion which doubles the area of play. I haven't tried the Traders and Barbarians expansion yet, but I would bet it's just as awesome as the others. For each expansion, there's an extension available to raise the maximum number of players from four to six. These games may not be cheap, but the enjoyment you'll get out of them is well worth it.
