Field Archaeologists

It is a sad truth that the majority of field archaeologists are alcoholics and/or perpetual children. They often live in hotels, with few responsibilites outside work and minimal expenses. So they continue to live like college students in dorms on into their 30's. They are typically rather crude, crass and vulgar, with their topics of conversation and sense of humour ranging from "my sexual escapades" to "that one really funny time when I got drunk", and their idea of a social event generally involves excessive alcohol consumption and not much else.

So I was very pleased today to be working with Andy and Merrit. They are fun and actually seem to engage their brains in the normal course of events, which was a pleasant change. On the way back from work, I taught them to play "Contact" (a word game taught to me by the lovely wavestar and arathain), and we played half a dozen rounds. It was a lot of fun. Merrit may be my roommate this session, but I don't know yet. She seems nice.

I have now officially been back for an hour and a half, and my feet are still *freezing*. What gives?
