While I was in San Jose last week a group of us decided to spend an afternoon at the Tech Museum. I'd gone there last year when the rotating exhibit was something to do with Star Trek, but I decided to skip that part of the museum that year. This year they had an exhibit called "BODY WORLDS Vital" which we decided to actually check out. The exhibit was a mix of science, art and something right out of a horror movie. Most of the exhibit consisted of real dead bodies that were preserved, had the skin removed and cut open in various ways. It was very surreal to be there. I almost wish I had the time and materials to do some sketching there. It was about the best anatomy reference for muscles I'm ever going to see in person. The message of the exhibit was to make people aware that our bodies are affected by what we do and what we eat. In addition to the full bodies they had the lungs of a smoker and clogged arteries opened up. I'm glad I went to that exhibit, it was well worth the money.
After that we went to the main part of the Tech Museum which was in some ways more fun that I remember. Probably about the funniest part was where we all sat down to play on the second life computers. We ended up pretending to TS and just generally being internet trolls while laughing out asses off. Eventually we decided that if the museum monitors the chat they would probably be sending security shortly. We decided to move on and enjoy the rest of the museum. Just like last year we enjoyed the virtual roller coaster, the earthquake ride and doing genetic modifications on bacteria.
