captains log..stardate
Thursday,Friday-6/21-22/07
I boarded the train in birmingham. it was smelly and full of project looking black people. I sat next to a huge 55yr old italian guy named john who looked and talked like someone straight out of the Sopranos.
The train was late pulling into DC because in SC we hit a deer and it went under the engine and knocked out the brakes. It knocked out the air conditioning too. So i was stuck in the middle of the woods for 4 hours sweating to death while they fixed the train.
I pulled into DC ragged and smelling like old ass around 2pm. My cell phone battery died right as i was pulling into the station so i had no way of calling or texting cedric to let him know i had arrived.
I stepped off the train and saw the station was huge,and there was a sea of people. No way to find him on my own.
small panic attack ensued.
Then i found a cop and put on my best southern accent.."excuse me,can you help? i need a plugin to charge my cell phone or i think i may die"
He helped me find a plug,i called cedric,and he was in front of me a minute later. YAY!
We took the metro back to fairfax,grabbed some delicious dinner at Noodles and Co.We drove to his house after that,and i grabbed shower to get the skanky train smell off,and then we had a great evening getting to know one another better.
Saturday-6/23/07
We woke up early and headed to maryland to Great Falls. We went hiking and rock climbing. We couldn't stay long because we knew TPSrs were coming for a meetup.
It was great seeing Nic again,and meeting Greg,Dave,and Dan. Everyone was awesome as i expected.They came in jean shorts,wife beaters,and socks with sandals. Made me feel right at home with them.
We ate cedrics beer chili which was amazing,and i made a german chocolate heart shaped cake for dessert since we were also celebrating gregs birthday.
We had some beers,a few smoked,and we talked/partied into the night.
Sunday-6/24/07
Cedric and I let Nic and Greg sleep as late as they wanted. When they woke up,we went to get lunch at Chipotle. It was just okay to me. Not what i'm used to. But at least i got to try it and see what all the fuss is about. Calorie/fatgram hell.
I was sad to see everyone leave.I wish they could have stayed all week and done the touring with us.
After they left,cedric and i went to the zoo. It was fantastic.
Monday-6/25/07
time to tour the city. We took the metro downtown and walked for hours and hours soaking in every touristy site we could..national mall, washington monument, jefferson memorial,etc.. we also went paddle boating on the potomac lake(or whatever that lake was) in the rain outside the jefferson memorial. That was silly fun.
We went to the museum of natural history on our way back to the metro. There was no way to see everything in one day,so we decided to split it into two and go back on tuesday.
Tuesday, 6/26/07
More touring.. all the museums this time..art,air and space,arbotorium,native american,etc. By this time,i had blisters on my toes the size of peanuts. I was trying to break in new shoes,and instead fubar'd my feet. We walked for miles anyway cause i was having too much fun to stop.
After touring,We went to Cedrics band practice and they rocked my socks. Best music i've heard live in awhile. I enjoyed meeting his band members also. Good guys.
After the practice,we drove to Georgetown and went to a movie.. Evan Almighty..cute family type movie. I'd watch it again.
Wednesday, 6/27/07
My last day in VA.. Cedric had to work till 11am,so i cleaned house while he was gone. Then i packed and grabbed a shower.
When he got home,we got in his car and drove to Alexandria. We went to Arlington Cemetary for awhile,and saw a soldier's funeral while walking around. That was sad. We drove by the pentagon also.
We walked the streets of alexandria,down to the river to watch the sailboats for a few,then grabbed a bite to eat at a lovely little french place.
By the time we got down with all that,it was time to head to the train station. Cedric was nice enough to wait with me till the train arrived.
It was hard to say goodbye.
The train ride home was eventful in that we hit something again..this time a tree that had fallen during a storm as we were passing through lower virginia. It sounded like a bomb went off. Another 2hrs in the woods and we were on our way again.
I arrived back in birmingham only an hour later than planned.
I shall fly wherever i go from now on.
