Two years ago today was a Tuesday. The Tuesday before Thanksgiving, to be exact. I was driving to San Diego from Orange County to go on a date with a guy I had met at a dungeon. A dungeon I wouldn't have been at if it wasn't for one dear friend; I wouldn't have struck up a conversation with this guy if it wasn't for the insight (and urging/extracting of promises) of another.
It's a little known fact that I was supposed to call this guy when I reached a certain point on the drive and had programmed his number into my phone incorrectly (I had a blackberry and it exchanged one of the numbers for letters. Sheesh!). I had to call my recently (mutually) dumped former subby and he reluctantly logged into my Alt account to retrieve the number for me. It's one of a zillion reasons he's still one of my best friends.
We ate at a little wine bar in RB called The Barrel Room. I barely remember the food, but I can tell you the table we were at. I can tell you that I lost a bet involving The Princess Bride, and even though I lost, he did his "punishment" anyway. I did too. I can also tell you we talked and laughed until we noticed we were the last ones in the restaurant and the wait staff was staring.
I can also tell you the wall I was pressed up against when we made out for 10 minutes or 2 hours... I have no idea which. Then, in the wee hours of the morning, I had to make the drive back to Orange County so I could go to work the next that day. I had been invited to attend Spanksgiving, but was reluctant to RSVP until I knew a little more about this guy. As I was getting in my car I asked if I could come down early and help him prepare the meal.
"Dinner is at 4" he said.
"Okay, but what time should I be there?"
"How about Wednesday night?"
"Bold." I responded. And paused. "Okay."
In the midst of the worst job crap I've ever dealt with (times TEN MILLION!), I can still recognize that I'm the luckiest girl in the world. Thanks for the most amazing 2 years of my life, Love Monkey. ♥
