I have a love/hate relationship with shoes.
I love the concept of shoes, but I hate shoe shopping. I have tiny feet, and whenever I ask for a shoe in my size, the salesperson inevitably looks at me like I'm a crazy person and says "if you wanted that size, you should have come earlier in the season." This always makes me think "if you keep running out of this size, shouldn't you maybe start ordering more?" Sigh.
Anyway, after updating Ye Olde Wedding Checklist earlier today, I started thinking about wedding shoes. Since theoretical shoe shopping is much more satisfying than actual shoe shopping, off to the internet I went. My toughest decision was deciding which wedding colour to go with (I already knew I didn't want white shoes). Did I want red shoes to go with
allenec and
durdaana's recently purchased bridemaids dresses, or did I want aqua shoes, which could double as my Something Blue.
An improperly conducted boolean search led me to images of aqua and red shoes rather than aqua or red shoes. Wait, both colours in one shoe? Can it be true? Yes it can: aqua shoes with red soles!
I want these. I want these like I have never wanted shoes before. Can I wear python to a wedding? Is there a rule or custom that says I shouldn't? Would I care if there was? Probably not. Would I be able to save these shoes for the wedding? Probably not. Would I get them stuck in a subway grate and ruin them sometime in early May? Most likely.
Also available in peep-toe format.
Hmm, a little more Studio 54 than Mad Men for my taste, but still kinda awesome in their own right.
Now, after I finished my initial drooling over these, I was informed by someone who knows more about shoes than me that the red sole has some significance: it means that the shoes are apparently designed by a fancy French designer named Christian Louboutin, and are waaaaaaay out of my price range. Oh, and that popping sound you just heard, that was the sound of my enthusiam bubble being burst.
This tends to show how out-of-touch with the whole world of fashion I can be. Most girls see red-soled high heel shoes and think "ooh, Christian Louboutin!" I see the same shoes and think (random historical fact!) "did you know that at the 17th century court of Versailles, wearing shoes with high heels that had been painted red was a hallmark of the nobility?"
These shoes were way cooler than anything Louis XIV would've had.
