» APPEARANCE: Mikuru is short, cute, and incredibly well endowed. Perfectly proportioned she is the 'ideal' woman in Haruhi Suzumiya's eyes and can easily be considered the most beautiful character in her canon. She has soft, pale skin with an innocent face, framed by long brownish red hair that falls past her shoulders. Her eyes are large and wide, the same color as her hair. She has a small star shaped mole on her left breast.
» PERSONALITY: Sweet, a little clumsy, and shy, Mikuru is your classic 'Moe' character, as dubbed correctly by Haruhi. She has a strong sense of loyalty, as she sticks to her duty of watching over Haruhi Suzumiya, despite everything that the eccentric Brigade Leader puts her through. Nervous, she often reacts with fright and confusion to Haruhi. If too stressed, she has been known to cry, pass out, and doesn't often react well under too much pressure, often found clinging to Kyon when truly terrified. Haruhi's 'affectionate' abuse can reduce her to tears, and despite being subjected to constant harassment, she seems to hold a set of morals that she tries to adhere to.
She doesn't like scary stories, and Haruhi's adventures often cause her to wonder if everything will be all right. When it is necessary, even when it frightens her, she does take action and give what aid she is able to offer. Her interactions have shown that she truly cares about her friends, and their well-being and safety. It is also evident that she tries to remain strict to her mission, and does not often share private information. This is sometimes to her own disadvantage.
One person that Mikuru has always been incredibly nervous around, despite being with her nearly every day, is Yuki Nagato. Because of the incredible power she possesses, it frightens and makes Mikuru nervous. Furthermore, she is aware that Yuki's superiors don't necessarily have the same goals in mind regarding Haruhi as her own organization has. This also holds true for Itsuki, who she actually warns Kyon against. Despite all different organizational agendas however, they have all worked hard to look after each other and the Brigade.
Inside her canon it has been stated several times, even by individuals who are not part of her own 'group' that she is the kind of person who makes you want to protect her, and you can't help but want to look after her. Itsuki stated that it could almost be considered a power she possesses. Her helplessness is often seen as endearing and that it is likely something her organization uses to it's advantage in regards to Haruhi Suzumiya.
Unlike her more easily flustered counterpart, Adult!Mikuru seems much more mature and level-headed in events. More flirtatious, she doesn't seem opposed to teasing, and seems to have much more know-how in things compared to the Mikuru within the SOS Brigade. Despite their subtle differences, which is likely due to experience and the difference in their ages, she still remains kind, caring, and holds most all the same notions that young Mikuru does.
» BACKGROUND: As any character within the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Mikuru is incredibly difficult when it comes to events in the past. As the story is told from Kyon's point of view, and most information regarding Mikuru is 'classified' it's difficult to obtain information about her life prior to meeting Kyon and the rest of the SOS Brigade. Rather, it's easier to understand her by fast-forwarding into the future, which really isn't the future for her...although on occasion it is, to understand her past. Confused yet? Me too.
Basically, Mikuru is a Time Traveler. The exact name of her organization is classified information, and has, at this point in time, not been revealed. Her main purpose for being sent back in time is to keep a close eye on Haruhi Suzumiya, who, in an explanation to Kyon, she describes as being a 'distortion in time'.
The Mikuru we meet at the very beginning of the series is a stunningly beautiful 2nd year student at North High. Short, with a body that is particularly well endowed, she is quickly captured by Haruhi Suzumiya and cast into the important role of being the 'Moe Character' of the SOS Brigade. Reluctant, she only decides to officially join when she notices Yuki Nagato, a humanoid interface, as being part of the group. Concerned by the alien's presence, she decided that, in that particular time frame, it was likely inevitable that she become part of the SOS Brigade.
Serving as the incredibly cute mascot of Haruhi's strange group, she's often used as eye candy and forced to dress in costume whenever within the club room. Additionally she often falls victim to being forced into plots by the brigade captain that involve some form of sexual harassment.
The fact that she is in actually a time traveler from the future, and a member of the SOS Brigade aside, she lived, from what we can gleam, a relatively peaceful school life before joining the club, even making friends. Beyond the Mikuru initially introduced to the story however is another Mikuru, or rather...Mikuru--from a future a little ahead of the one who spends most her days with the SOS Brigade. For the sake of not confusing them, I'll refer to her as Adult!Mikuru.
Little is known about Adult!Mikuru. However, she occasionally comes back from the future to aid Kyon and help events unfold into how she, and the organization she works for, believe they are supposed to. She gives advice and hints without being overly open. In fact, Mikuru is responsible for bringing Kyon into the past which led to the first time Haruhi actually met him, but under the guise of John Smith. Quickly after their arrival Adult!Mikuru causes the younger version of herself to pass out, and takes over. There have been several other instances in which she has time traveled as well. In particular, a couple of times with Kyon in the events surrounding the 'Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya'.
