30 Day Song Meme: Day 10; Singer and One Instrument & Day 11; Song With a Literary Title

Jun 25, 2011 19:23

Skipped yesterday. Lost track of time and then motivation.

Day 10's song was harder than I thought, mostly because all three of the songs I wanted to use weren't on youtube. My fourth choice turns out to have two instruments. So I don't even particularly like this song (not that I dislike it, but it's just not one I'd count as a favorite) but it was the first one that I found that fit the criteria.

Day 11, a song with a literary title. This one was very easy, as I thought of this song immediately. The song is "Shalott" by Emilie Autumn. It's based on the Arthurian poem "The Lady of Shalott" by Lord Tennyson. The basic plot is that the Lady of Shalott is locked in a castle surrounded by water, where she's cursed to weave images of the world but is not allowed to see the world directly; instead she looks into a mirror that shows her the images to weave. She sees Sir Lancelot and falls in love with him, and she looks out the window to see him more clearly, which brings about the curse. She leaves the castle and gets in a boat so she can try to go to Camelot and see the man she's fallen in love with, but she dies before she arrives.
