Birthday Wrap-up

Nov 29, 2009 21:55

Last week, Ray gave me the first part of my birthday present: a new digital camera (a pink Sony Cyber Shot). All week, Ray had said he had a surprise for my birthday. All he would tell me was that he needed to rent a car and that I didn't need to pack an overnight bag. Friday, Ray rented a car and we were going to go out for dinner. We couldn't decide where to go so Ray said "Let's just drive until we find somewhere." That was cool with me.

We went up Brimley to Finch, then across Finch (at this point I'm guessing we're going to go to Korean Grill at Midland and Finch. We sail past Midland... okay, not Korean Grill. Then we go north on Kennedy and I think "Okay, Mongolian Grill"... but we drove right past Kennedy and Steeles... up to Hwy 7, so I'm figuring Dave and Buster's. Then Ray turned onto the 404, heading north. Then we got off at Wellington, drove through Aurora (at this point I'm totally confused as to where we're going, but Ray said "you like car rides, you've done this all your life since you were a kid" and I agreed. I really was enjoying the drive.) Then we went over to the 400 and headed north. Ray turned off at Hwy 9 and we drove all the way to Orangeville. We pulled into Angel's Diner (one of my favourite restos in Orangeville), but they were just about to close. :( Ray's plan all along was to have dinner at Angel's, but that didn't work out. So we went to Boston Pizza for dinner. After dinner, we went to Timmie's in Orangeville to get a coffee for Ray and a tea for me for the ride home. As we leave the Timmie's, Ray turns left (north) and I said "since we're this far we may as well go see my mom." Ray looks at me and says: "I guess I can't hide it anymore... that's where we're going."

I started to tear up, I was so happy. I had thought about asking Ray if we could go to Mom's for my birthday, but didn't want to ruin whatever he had planned for me. Turned out I didn't have to. Ray had been planning this for my birthday for about two months.

We got up to Mom's at about 11 pm, sat visiting with her for a while, then went to bed. Mom had left Rockets candies on our pillows, instead of mints. :D I woke up in the morning and looked out the window to see all the new alpacas!!!! Mom has 16 alpacas now. (She had 5 pet-stock alpacas up until about a week ago...) She has two separate barns for them now -- need to keep the males and females separated until they breed, of course. Ray got caught in the cross fire of a fight between the girls and got spat on. :( But he had a shower and got his coat washed before we went home, so it was all good.

Mom and I made a yummy mushroom bread for a snack, and Mom made a lasagna for dinner. Hmmm, lasagna on my birthday? Where have I heard that before? ;) (Ray made me lasagna for my 17th birthday, aka the day he proposed)

We drove home and had dinner at Mandarin with Ray's parents (who had never been there before!!! How strange.)

All in all, it was a great birthday!
