Things with Gideon are going really, well- must better than I anticipated by this time. The first ride in comparison to the ones lately was disastrous, and it wasn't even THAT bad. But I definitely have to take lessons with this guy- he is out of my expertise.
For starters, he gets VERY heavy if you allow a downward pull. This is a relatively simple fix, but as my roots are in the hunter world, the downward heavy is all I really know- and the idea of putting my hands up by my belly button is NOT a habit. But we are getting there. The other issue is that he is very easily distracted, and fairly... chickenish. Hes a 17.1hh warmblood and the normal things are OK (still better than Royal!) but if we try to work outside the indoor, everything goes to shit. I know that i am expecting too much too soon, but with his fast improvement, my hopes get too high. And when my expectations are set that high, I tend to not be satisfied with our ride, which isn't fair to him.
So, the goals are:
1.) take a video tomorrow of the general w/t/c we have going now, so that A, I can see what the hell hes doing and B I can keep track of the progress
2.) consider side reins, a recommendation of the trainer, which leads to
3.) Take a damn lesson asap (not that I haven't been)
4.) Be happy with what I have.
I am a lucky, lucky girl. I have a horse who is sound and who has a lot of potential, and someone willing to help my finances to make that all possible. I have lots to be thankful for and I must remember that.
