Had my first full workday with my new company, New England Fire Equipment and Apparatus Supply. (Mouthful, I know.)
So, I get to work this morning at eight, to find out I was supposed to be there at seven. Oops. That's okay, because it turned out the boss neglected to tell me when he wanted me there. His fault. So, me and this guy Zack (Real cool guy, sixty years old, deaf as a post, ex-USMC.) We went to Gales Ferry, Ct. We PM'd (preventitive maitenance) three things. A brush truck, a fire engine, and the house generator.
It was very cool. I'm filthy as a pig, tired, I have a cut on my hand when a wrench slipped and I inadvertantly punched the differential, and I smell like engine oil. However, I'm stoked. I loved it.
I learned a bunch, and feel a touch more comfortable working around extremely expensive equipment. No major fuck ups though. I almost ran over Zack, but it was ok, because the wheel chocks held. However, I did see something horrible. We were working to take off oil filters (and by the way, I hate the jerkoff who put the fucking things on last year, because he forgot to put oil on the seal, and as a result, I damn near gave myself a double hernia taking the damn things off.) Anyway, Zack was helping me take the oil filters off. We were using a large ratchet and cheater pipe. The ratchet slipped, and before we could move, Zack took it right in the face. He cut up his nose prety bad. However, it was okay because we were in a firehouse, and lots of first aid kits were around.
With that, I'm off to sleep. Note to self, buy good safety glasses. That is all.
