Wow, I haven't blogged in an age and a half. I have a lot of pent-up bloggery in store, so watch out - I'm about to talk your ears off about (what else?) Bioware and my continuing love-love -relationship with it, particularly their latest release. Because what else do I have to blog about? My love life is on the same "meh" level (the necessary

And I'm just utterly impressed by your ability to not hit on Jacob accidentally. Though - "I'm more interested in just talking for a bit" sounds like she's about to follow it up with "you tight-pantsed hunk a' love, you". X) - I lol'd. It's a combination of how she says the line, and the way Shep leans against that table. I got that sort of thing all the time by accident.
The one conversation... where you ask if anyone's waiting back home for him. And you get him to tell you about how he saved the Citadel (speaking of, did you ever play that game on iPhone/iPod touch? It's amazing story-wise. There's totally some Jacob/Miranda going on there.) and he complains about how Shep was used as a poster girl then tossed out. If you go through all the dialogue options (how'd you save the citadel? anyone back home? ... I think there's something else, too) you're forced to flirt. The paragon, neutral, and renegade goodbyes are all flirts. You have to not ask him about saving the citadel or... I think the other was what he thinks about Cerberus. If you ask him both of those things, you're forced to flirt, which pissed me off. Because I just wanted to know because I was curious, but I ended up having to reload (I save before every conversation because I never know when I'll want to re-do a dialogue) and not ask so I could say goodbye without insinuating I was undressing him in my mind.
Ohhh, Garrus! 8D He needs more good fangirls. I'm so glad you're part of the pack. His humor is endlessly awesome. I take him with me everywhere, just so I get all the bonus goodies of his commentary. I love him on Mordin's loyalty mission. Cracks me up every time. And when he talks to Tali on the Citadel! XD
And ahhh, I got ya. Yeah, you know, I always get iffy about whether or not the ME1 relationship is honestly still happening in 2. Because to me, it really seems like the LI (at least, in Ash and Kaidan's part. Liara is a whole other story) has moved on/tried to get over you. I always took it as the relationship isn't really a relationship anymore, but there's a chance to reconcile between 2&3 or in 3. If Shep wants it. Because - at least in Kaidan's part - I'm pretty sure his email says something about "maybe" getting back together, or "maybe" working things out. I don't remember exactly, as I personally didn't 'mance anyone in 1 and saved myself for Garrussss. <3 But I thought that Kaidan's email implied that currently, they weren't in a relationship. Which was kind of a nice set-up for people who wanted to switch to Tali/Garrus or any new crew members. People often say they're "cheating" on Kaidan/Ashley, but I honestly don't think they are.
/long ramble was long.
(I loved the "my one friend in the universe" line, by the way - it was somehow more touching than "I've always found you hot"
omz, I know. I melted at that. I really think his romance is the most precious for fem!Sheps because it's so much more personal. I think that's my favorite part about the Garrus or Tali romance - that it's been building for a game and a half, and it didn't just BAM happen in the heat and stress of battle, but it's good friends taking it a step farther. I always have a thing with romances in RPGs seeming to happen so fast, and so I really, really loved that bioware put in an old crew who previously wasn't lovable and made them lovable. It just feels truer to me.
I would be tempted to use it myself, but my ringtone has always been Cantina Band from Star Wars, and I just wouldn't realise my phone was ringing without it...
... that's pretty bamf right there. xD The best part about Mordin as a ringtone is that unless it's someone into Mass Effect, I get the weirdest looks when my phone rings. Or when I get a text message. Because it yells "Enchantment!" at me. >.>
And unf, yes, DLC. I live for DLC. Though, I hate the hammerhead. I suck at it. I want my mako back. :<
I'm listening to the fanmix right now and loving it. 8D I forgot how much I liked "we are all made of stars".

I'm reminded of talking with Zevran in Dragon Age - it's pretty damn hard to stay friends with him, you have to really pick and choose your answers and it can still lead to drama in the camp... But of course that fits Zev's character, the Slutty McSluttinton that he is. X)
speaking of, did you ever play that game on iPhone/iPod touch?
Nope. I don't own such fancy thingamajiks. X) And I got a distinct Jacob/Miranda feeling from ME2 itself - I thought it was pretty much canon that they have a past, judging by the conversation after Jacob's loyalty quest, at least.
Do characters in ME2 do the Intervention bit, by the way? I mean, if you flirt with two characters at the same time, do they at some point show up and demand that you pick between the two? There's certainly a precedent to this in Bioware games, from Jade Empire to Mass Effect 1...
I love him on Mordin's loyalty mission. Cracks me up every time.
Oh, me too! That deadpan delivery got me every time. :D
Actually I took Garrus everywhere with me in both ME1 and 2. I intend to do the same with ME3. :)
Yeah, you know, I always get iffy about whether or not the ME1 relationship is honestly still happening in 2.
See, this is what I love about the relationships in ME2. They seem mature and varied to me. Life isn't black and white, and it takes time and effort to maintain a relationship - something the characters don't often have, what with a galaxy to save and whatnot. I absolutely loved the fact that Ash/Kaidan/Liara didn't just sit sighing by the window, hoping you might be still alive, while you were gone. They had other things in their lives, and while there might've been real feelings there, the situation pretty much forced them to deal with said feelings and move on. Of course it's going to be awkward to meet again, and even more so to try to salvage the romance. I loved that scene with Kaidan on Horizon - it rang true. It gave me a perfect opportunity to end the relationship, but it could've just as well worked as a motivator to try to fix things with Kaidan. I don't really see it as "cheating" either; you drift apart, things happen, and then you might drift back together again. It's not like you're fucking two characters at the same time in secret, or something.
I do think that romance with Garrus (or Tali) makes a lot of sense. He's pretty much guaranteed to stay by your side till the end, as he has no other obligations elsewhere. And starting off as friends is a good way to build something lasting. I just think Shep and him wouldn't necessarily move straight onto romance; try out the friends-with-benefits thing first, then see if there are Real Feelings to confess... That's how I read the conversations, anyway. X)
I think that's my favorite part about the Garrus or Tali romance - that it's been building for a game and a half, and it didn't just BAM happen in the heat and stress of battle, but it's good friends taking it a step farther.
Yeah, have to agree with you here. Although I did like the Thane romance, too. That was another character that just grew on me before I realised it (like Mordin). When you first meet Tali and Garrus, the game gives you a vivid impression that this is your dear old friend you're meeting for the first time in two years; it's just lovely. And the way they both reminisce about your past adventures together... d'aaww.
The best part about Mordin as a ringtone is that unless it's someone into Mass Effect, I get the weirdest looks when my phone rings.
Ha ha, awesome. X) I'm still looking for an appropriate text message tone. I'd love to have Kelly's "You have unread messages, Commander". :D

Glad to hear! There's always room for Moby, right? ;)

Sort of, but not as dramatic as in 1. If you're already "locked into" romance with one, and try to start flirting with someone else, they all have different things they say (to fit their personality), but it all amounts to "I don't want to be played, Shepard. I know you're with so-and-so." And you either back off there, or go to the other person and do the "nevermind let's not do this" thing. Once you break it off, you can go back and they'll start the romance.
If you kind of string Jacob along, then go for Garrus, he gets all pissy about you leading him on then going for the "cuttlebone". It's kind of funny. I've never gotten it, but a lot of friends have because they accidentally flirted. I might do it once just to get the scene and see/hear it. xD
Actually I took Garrus everywhere with me in both ME1 and 2. I intend to do the same with ME3. :)
*high five!!* Yeee-uh! Soul sister! Same thing here. I took him everywhere in 1, and went for him first in 2 so I could take him everywhere there. And he damn well better be a crew member again in 3, because the game won't be the same without hearing that voice and his humor all the time.
I absolutely loved the fact that Ash/Kaidan/Liara didn't just sit sighing by the window, hoping you might be still alive, while you were gone.
Seconded hard. I was very glad that they all seemed to move on. Though I worry about Liara... but still. I liked that they'd gotten new lives and tried new loves while you were gone, too.
I'm still looking for an appropriate text message tone. I'd love to have Kelly's "You have unread messages, Commander". :D
Your wish is about to be my command. I have "Commander, you have a new message at your private terminal" playing on my computer when I get new emails. Looking for that file for you, though...
"You have unread messages at your private terminal."
That what you wanted? If you wanted the "Commander, you have received a new message at your private terminal" just let me know. I have that as well. :3

Hm, kind of a shame, actually. I was always fond of those "let's bring everyone whom it may concern here and talk this over" moments. (My favourite is in Jade Empire, where you pretty much have to choose the threesome option if you've been romancing both Dawn Star and Silk Fox - they have already bonded, y'see, and if you try to pick just one of them, they both leave you to pursue a romance of their own. :D)
And he damn well better be a crew member again in 3, because the game won't be the same without hearing that voice and his humor all the time.
His voice. ♥ I can't believe I made it this far without mentioning his voice. I really have a thing for certain raspy tones - all the more reason why I feel like I should've liked Kaidan better in ME1, yet didn't...
Though I worry about Liara... but still.
Yeah, me too. Her development seemed the most rushed - I can't help feeling like we missed something. From a kind and shy scientist to a hardcore information agent? That's quite a leap there. But there were still flashes of the old Liara there - like the hug - so I have no complaints, per se.
Your wish is about to be my command.
♥♥ THANK YOO. Finally I can ME up my phone. And if you have the "commander" bit, too, I'd love to have it as well! :3

Personally, I'm hoping for teh dramaz in 3. I think it'd be fantastic to have Kaidan and Garrus or Ashley and Tali fight it out, if Shep romanced one in 1 and the other in 2. I mean, that could be so amazing. And assuming your LIs will be back (which, from what I've read, seems pretty certain as long as you didn't kill them) I can't imagine there not being some sort of "FRSRS?" moment.
... I keep seeing/hearing about Jade Empire and thinking it's another game I have missed out on. Might have to look into that.
His voice. ♥
Unf. He's one of those characters that I never skip through dialogue, even after four playthroughs. Carth was another of them. Thane is almost one - every now and then I'll hurry him along (especially during his flashback things. Those kinda weird me out sometimes XD) but a lot of times I love hearing him talk. I also can't watch a Hornitos commercial without laughing myself silly.
I can't help feeling like we missed something.
The comic series clears a lot of that up, as well as some very hidden dialogue with her that's very easy to miss. And if you miss it you can't get it, unless you reload to an earlier save. She went through quite a lot of hell to help Shepard, and from what I gather she lost a close friend in the process (haven't read all the comics yet, and I don't think it's finished yet anyway).
I do think she's taken some hardcore twists, though. Like, I almost worry about her. I don't think I'll ever be able to see her as anything but the socially awkward scientist, and the new role she's in seems like it's got a lot of potential to get her killed. But I do hope it gets played with in 3, because there's so much potential in her story that would suck to be lost.
And if you have the "commander" bit, too, I'd love to have it as well! :3
Glad I could help a fellow geek! ♥♥
Why certainly! If there are any voice files at all you want, let me know. On the me comm here, someone uploaded a shit ton of dialogue files a while back. Joker, Kelly, Sovereign, Harbinger, Garrus. I think there were more that I didn't download, too. But I've gone through a lot of them and renamed the files from the odd "nor_yeoman_d_S_INT.019" to things like "Welcome aboard, Commander". If you want the whole mess of 'em, I can find the link for you. But to save you time, if there was just a line or two you wanted, I probably already have them renamed and can upload that. :3
I'm a geek, and have Harbinger "assuming control" when my laptop turns on and "releasing control" when I turn it off. Yeah, I'm amazing like that.
"Commander, you have received a new message at your private terminal."
Also, because the love needs shared, I am the very model of a scientist salarian.

Ha ha, why not just organise some kind of a Normandy-wide version of The Bachelorette? Winner gets to date the Saviour of the Citadel... XD Seriously though, I'm looking forward to the drama, too. They already put so much more thought into the relationships in ME2 compared with ME1; it can only get better... The folks at Bioware are really good at outdoing themselves.
... I keep seeing/hearing about Jade Empire and thinking it's another game I have missed out on. Might have to look into that.
YES
I mean, uh... YES, YOU DEFINITELY SHOULD. :D It's in my top three of all-time RPGs for a reason. The world design is incredible, the characters Bioware-grade of awesome and the music some of their prettiest. Also, just wait until you meet Sir Roderick von Fontlebottom the Magnificent Bastard, voiced by John Cleese...
Unfortunately the PC version isn't as good as it could be (a bit hastily done, it seems), but I still highly recommend it.

Yeah, I got the dialogue you're talking about, and it did help a little. Still, I hope we can see Liara (and the Shadow Broker, perhaps?) in ME3, to tie up even more loose ends.

Man, that'd be way too creepy for me. X) I'm so voice-oriented - when I hear that phrase I just shudder... On the other hand, visuals of the Collectors never bothered me much, even though they're bug-like and weird-looking.
Thanks so much for the voice files! ♥ I'm just waiting for my first Kelly-announced text message now. :D That's one thing PC gamers have over the X-Boxers - you can get screencaps and voice files and other goodies so much more easily... I used to play KotOR II on PC, before I got my X-Box, and took tons of pics of my characters, and my favourite scenes. I'd love to make icons again, but I'm so used to making my own screencaps...
Wow. I really should take a look at the communities. I haven't joined any DA communities, either, out of some weird fear that I'm too late to the party and have nothing new to bring to it...

WELL THEN I SUPPOSE I MUST. Though I'd have to get the PC version, as I don't have an xbox. But that's still something! And I'm too intrigued by this Sir Roderick von Fontlebottom the Magnificent Bastard now to not get it.
Still, I hope we can see Liara (and the Shadow Broker, perhaps?) in ME3, to tie up even more loose ends.
Oooh, have you seen the youtube video? Someone got into the dialogue files and found whole conversations of Liara talking about the shadow broker business. It sounds like it'll be an epic DLC that will be released. Just like Kasumi's dialogue files were in the game before she was, rumor is that these dialogue files are signs of upcoming Liara-centric gameplay.

That's why I always prefer PC. That, and I like being able to play without taking over the living room to use the TV. Because then I have family listening/watching me play, or harassing me to hurry and quit because a show is coming on, etc.
But recently I've been getting into making icons and have loved the ability to just fraps whatever I want whenever I want it. Makes it so easy if I know an image I want, can just get it like that. :>
Wow. I really should take a look at the communities.
Yes, you should! masseffect is very active and friendly and wonderful. Every Friday is a "Shore Leave Friday" post where OT play times and 'fandom fluff' (story WIPs, art WIPs, youtube videos, things you didn't want to make a separate post for) go on. There's almost always one or two artists who do a "first ten get a free pic" post, and there's tons of just fun times.
And they always have updates about official things and good discussions. I kind of live there. xD
Also, I noticed you like Joker. Thought you might like options.

Yay, corruption spreads! :D Apart from a couple of glitches, the PC version should work just fine. It just took them ages to release the PC version; you'd think they'd had time to polish it up...
Oh, and it was the first Bioware game to include a bisexual male love interest, if you're into that kind of thing. ♥Sky!♥
Oooh, have you seen the youtube video?
"I've always treasured knowledge, and the Shadow Broker had more than anyone", okay, I like that line a lot... Now all I'm worried about is, if these scenes were originally in and later deleted from ME2, does it mean we won't be getting their equivalents in ME3? :/ DLC is fine and all, but not everyone can access it, and this seems kind of relevant to the main plot...
I suppose KotOR II just made me bitter when it comes to deleted scenes whose sound files remain. Atton's death and the culmination of the romance? The fate of your entire crew? Oh who cares, let's just add a couple of storm monsters and have an NPC hastily explain it, that should work. X(
That's why I always prefer PC.
For me it's simply a money issue: keeping a computer up to date for gaming purposes is an endless quest. With consoles, you just find the appropriate one, plug it in and... that's it. Until the RED RING OF DOOM strikes of course! I'm horribly lazy, really. XD
Also, I noticed you like Joker. Thought you might like options.
Okay, now you're officially spoiling me! ♥
Now I've got to get me some Bioware icons... I'm even tempted to upgrade to paid account again. Ah, fangirling. I'm so easy.
