Lets be honest-three of the four "outcasts" are the biggest leads! One thing three of them have in common is that they have a spongy counterpart to keep them from going over the edge (Freddie should have been to Effy as well but it's like the opposite happened)...

Jal was always the one to support Chris and help him grow and the biggest development (they actually both had) happened when the relationship became romantic.
Jal while spongy did have fun times and the impression she left on the boys was bigger than expected because they were rare.
Jal is probably the best female friend on the show (yes more than Panda I believe)!
Plus, who else would tell Michelle when she was being too clingy with Tony?
Most importantly-No Jal, No Jal's brothers! I will never forget Jal's brothers! I've never laughed as hard in my life than at their scenes!!

While some don't see what's so great about Sid, I felt like I could relate to him from the beginning-I think his relationship with Tony is one of the most interesting. Two of my favorite scenes ever are the one from 1x08 and their last in the S2 final.
Also,the Cassie/Sid was a relationship that,to me,felt very original and brave.
With Sid things always felt so real-His dad's death? Heartbreaking in a way that makes you wonder how you'd feel-That usually doesn't happen to me.
I mean yeah,Sid is spongy, but who wouldn't be in his shoes?
And LOL comic relief! Without Sid how could the guys smuggle drugs into Russia? That was one of his most adorable episodes I think.
Freddie-My Sponge fave and lets face it, the core of the team! Though the name was brought up over him, I think he's the least deserving-Yeah, he's angsty, but boy knows how to have a good time!
Without his angst, there wouldn't be as much Cook angst,without his angst-No Freddie/Karen fights, no Freffy (for those who love it) and really, no interest. As much as I ADORE S3 trailer Freddie! I don't know how interesting the three musketeers would have been if Freddie went along with everything Cook wanted and didn't act as the caretaker. The relationship wouldn't have been the same and with all due respect for both Ceffy and Freffy- To me, the Cook/Freddie friendship made the show.
Most importantly what would we have done without all of those pretty pictures and gifs?

Thomas... Though my theory doesn' work here-He brought us the LOLs as "Congo Cock" (all rights reserved to mammary_glands if i'm not mistaken),"run like a dog",Merv's funny antics and the hilarious Harvard fail. His biggest part ,to me ,was to occasionally play as the voice of reason, of SOBER reason which I expected more of in S4 but that's not his fault ....You know he started out as really cool and sweet! He's a character that could have been something more. So here's to that:
