Here's my theory, which may have been expressed before, I'm not sure.
Could Freddie have gotten the bat from John and beaten him instead? And now he is fleeing the authorities? I guess its unlikely, but I'm just putting it out there. I think whoever that blood belonged to was a bit ambiguous.
