Let's talk music.

I know I can't be the only one that's really inspired by music when I'm writing so tell me sweethearts, what songs are inspiring your fiction? Do you have songs for characters or chapters or different moods and situations? Do you ever use songs you've seen on Skins or found in fanmixes to get your creativity going?

Lots of Neon Trees lately. I actually have a whole list I've compiled of songs that make me think of characters/pairings/situations/etc that I keep adding to and if I need inspiration, or am making a fanmix, that's usually where I turn.

Every single chapter title is a song lyric, and most of them are from a band or bands I'm currently obsessed with. For instance, Florence And The Machine's Lungs was a huge inspiration for one fic, and Plushgun's Pins And Panzers has informed my choices for the bigbang (so far, anyway. I'll probably get obsessed/distracted by a new one and then they'll all change!)

Anyway, music is a big one for me. If not directly causing a fic, then surrounding it in some way. (I have soundtracks for almost everything I've written, fandom related or not)

I think it's just one of those, moods and themes things. And possibly a love for imagining montage-y/emotional music video scenarios.

I usually use music to keep me writing, but it doesn't always influence what I write. For example, I've written angsty fic while listening to Lady Gaga's "The Fame."

Some songs that as of late I've been listening to a lot:

Halo (cover) -- Florence + the Machine
Bloodstream -- Stateless
The Cave -- Mumford and Sons
Run Devil Run -- Ke$ha
Kings and Queens -- 30 Seconds to Mars
Canon in D Major -- Pachelbel

As you can see, it's quite an eclectic mix. I usually try to mix the tone of the song with the story I'm writing, but usually it just works out that I end up putting one song on repeat that I'm just ~feeling at the time.

For the Effy fic I'm writing for big bang I've been listening to a lot of post-rock, ambient, and electronica, just moody stuff with minimal lyrics. I usually listen to Death Cab and Counting Crows when I'm writing something ~emotional. My titles often come from lyrics and poetry, and if one song inspired the title and mood of the fic I'll listen to it on repeat.

I personally find it really hard to write and listen to music at the same time. If I hit a wall, I listen to a lot of music in order to get into the mood and then write like a banshee in silence.
All my titles are song lyrics, though, 25% because I'm crap at titles, 25% because I hate thinking up titles, and 50% because I probably listened to that song the most whilst writing it.
