The violence continued Tuesday night as four more shootings were reported; none was fatal.
A 24-year-old man was shot at 4246 Humphrey Street just before 10 p.m. About 20 minutes later, a man was reported shot near 4500 South Broadway. A 15-year-old was reported shot in the leg at Minnesota and Miami avenues about 10:30 p.m. A fourth shooting occurred about 11 p.m. on Grand Boulevard near Flora Court. That victim, a 20-year-old man, is in critical condition with several gunshot wounds to the chest."
Me and a friend drove by this, probably mere minutes after it happened. About a block beforehand i drove over a patch of broken glass in the left lane and though it a bit odd. A block later, i saw a cadillac propped up on the meridian with the passenger door open. As we drove by it, i curiously looked in and the image i saw has been permanently etched in my visual memory. A black man in a white long sleeve shirt was slumped over and leaning toward the passenger side. The front of his chest bore marking of what could of been bullet wounds, but since i only saw it for a fraction of a second i couldn't clearly tell if that was the case. Regardless, paranoia instantly kicked in and i felt a need to get the fuck out of that area as soon as possible. Now, if i was more sober, i could of taken a more samaritan route and called an ambulance/police.....but i shamefully admit my line of though was the following, "Oh fuck, that guy is shot..looked dead..this just happened...the bastards that did this are probably still in close proximity.....get the fuck out".
I always knew about the criminal element in the city, but to see it so bluntly was really shocking....
