Slumdog Millionaire.
In one word, I would describe Slumdog Millionaire as Brilliant. From the stellar cast to the amazing cinematography, this film captures your heart from beginning to end. The way each scene is marred with the next through "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" questions, an interrogation, and flashbacks through young Jamal's life is complicated but somehow it all works. Dev Patel is a phenomal British-Indian actor who captivates your heart from beginning to end as Jamal,and the children brought in for the flashbacks of Jamal's past are soooo perfect.
You cannot help but have your heart broken and then rejuvinated throughout this film. It definitely deserved the Best Feature Film oscar that it received.
*Also, the dance sequence at the end is so fun I can't help but attempt to dance
along (hidden in the darkness at the side of the theatre where patrons can't see
me of course :P)
The Wrestler
I wasn't expecting much from this movie and sadly I wasn't dissapointed. The hasbeen story of former pro wrestler Randy "the ram" is drawn out and boring inmost places. I know that it is a very character driven drama but ".........." blah. Mickey Rourke does well in this role but it's not enough. The only part I thoroughly enjoyed was when Randy is working in the deli at his local supermarket for extra cash. Yeah I want him to serve me some rump roast (or butt steak :P) So yes, NOT my favorite film of award season. I wouldn't go see it unless you're a Mickey Rourke fan...ok just don't go.
MILK
OMG I loved this movie for a few reasons. First, true stories such as this reallymake me feel something and yes I ended up tearing near the end. I love when they flash photos of the cast just before the credits and tell us what happened with them. Second Sean Penn on James Franco action is beautiful lol. SeanPenn's Jesus beard is brilliant. And third, which may very well be the greatest reason, EMILE HERSCH!!!!!!!!!! He steals the show, at least for me and my friends. The perm, the glasses, the jeans, the insane amount of flamboyant
perfection. Holy shit poop. ++Allison Pill=Genius. If I were a lesbian, I would be this woman.
