Oh, Make Me Over...

I've previously blogged that I love soap nuts and we've been using them for a long time now (well over a year, maybe even 2 at this point). I'm not entirely sure anymore if I do love them. I mean, to look at clothes after washing with soap nuts, they generally look clean, even my Lunapads. However, Andrew's clothes usually still smelled of Axe body spray (granted, that shit is a bitch to get out entirely) and even the armpits of my clothes would have some funk to them unless I sprayed them with diluted vinegar beforehand. That seems unusual and made me wonder just how much actual cleaning is going on. I began making liquid soap nuts and melted in some Dr. Bronner's soap with it yet the issue still remained. Andrew swore he could feel a film on the clothes and, admittedly, I could on occasion as well though not so much since using liquid form. So just what the heck was going on? We ran out of dishwasher detergent so I used liquid soap nuts in a pinch. The dishes would always come out dirty, some looking dirtier than before the wash. Again, just how much actual cleaning would this be doing on our clothes then? We're now using Seventh Generation dishwasher detergent with wonderful results. Today, I bought Eco Max laundry detergent so we'll see how that goes. If we do continue to buy detergents, I want them to be ones that are not chemical laden and thus safer for us and the environment.

I told Andrew a few days ago that I'm thinking about making my own laundry soap. His response was, "Why can't we just buy detergent like normal people??" *lol* We'll see if this detergent appeases him.
